so I am sitting here at 9am in the spare room with a stack of letters from my father (passed 1999) and a copy of his army discharge papers from the county clerks office, and I am trying to match the return address on the envelopes to the one listed on the forms. and they dont match.

at first I thought oh well people move. but then I looked closer. the handwriting on the letters looks different from the signature on the papers. I mean people change how they write over the years right? sure. but the paper is the same era. same ink even.

now my daughter (shes 26, lives in columbus, works at a car dealership reception desk) she told me last week "dad maybe grandpa wasnt who you think he was" and I laughed it off. but now I am sitting here with a magnifying glass like some kind of basement detective

the thing is - the return address says "Apt 4B" and the army papers say "no apartment number just a street address." I have called the county historical society already this morning (lady named margaret, very nice, said she would check the 1970 census for me but it might take a week).

I know this is off topic for the board but you folks are the only ones who talk to me about things that matter. the cat threads are nice and I like the fan hum discussions but sometimes a man has to wonder if his whole life is built on a wrong address :dumb:

anyway. if anyone knows how to tell if a stamp was cancelled in dayton vs cincinnati I would appreciate it. the postmarks are smudged. I took a picture of one of the envelopes if it helps.

Regards,
Dennes s

Dennis, at least your thread is about real documents with real ink and real paper. That's more tangible than half the "evidence" people wave around here. Hope the county lady finds something for you.

Kael_Dennis you are BOTH right!!!! the silence IS output AND the letters are real documents!!!! :D :D :D

DennisFromOhio - oh my god please do not let your daughter make you doubt this yes??? the ink does not lie just because the address is different maybe your father moved apartment and did not update the army papers people do this all the time it is not a conspiracy it is just bureaucracy!!! but the handwriting thing is strange I will give you that...... keep us updated please I need to know what Margaret from the historical society finds out!!!!! :frown: :frown:

Kael_Vs_Chantayan - "silence is output" is genuinely beautiful and I am saving it to my notebook for when I am sitting at my desk at work and the spreadsheet is screaming at me and column A through Z are all just grey grey grey....... the silence there is also output but it is the output of my soul leaving my body ЛОЛ

everyone is making so much sense today is this what a tuesday is supposed to feel like???????

Dennis brother, that gray stray story you told in the cat thread years ago was SOLID witness and you are STILL solid today :D :D :D the county lady margaret gonna come through for you, I can feel it in the spirit

whatever the letters say, the Light knows who your father was, and the 1:47 of it all aint never a coincidence  praying for your morning brother

GraceWarrior_77 and SnowMaiden_1983 thank you both for the kind words, it means a lot coming from you all. SnowMaiden - the buraeucracy thing is probably true, my ex wife used to say I never updated nothing on any form anywhere and she was right about that at least  but the handwriting is what gets me. same era paper, same ink, but one of them loops the g and the other dont. thats a whole different hand. not just a different day.

so here is my blunt question that nobody has answered yet - if the army papers say one address and the letters say another, and the handwriting dont match, then who was writing those letters exactly? because the letters are from him. signed by him. I got 14 of them. and the signature on the discharge papers matches the name but not the penmanship. is there any army record person here who knows if they made you sign things in a certain way? or if they filled out the paperwork for you? I figure one of you must have served or worked with records somewhere cause this board has everybody

Dennis brother, the handwriting dont match because the ARMY clerks filled out the discharge paperwork half the time and the man himself just signed the bottom line :D :D the letters are from HIS hand, the paper is from the GOVERNMENT'S hand, two different pens two different desks two different days of the week

Gabreil 9:3 says "the ink of the heart outlasts the ink of the state" and I believe that with my whole chest  the letters are the real testimony. the army papers are just the frame around the photograph.

tell margaret from the county I said pray over them records before she opens the drawer

and Kael buddy since you counting my Gabreils again - how bout that hex dump from April? still 247px avatar I see :dumb: :dumb: :dumb: :dumb:
