i think about that guy chantayan sometimes, how he talks like nothing can touch him, meanwhile im here getting dripped on by a strangers umbrella and the tram is full of people who all smell like wet wool and bad decisions and the hum of the motor is just the same as the dryer timer but the dryer timer is a prayer wheel and the tram motor is the spirit moving through the public transit saints

i counted 147 seconds of hum before the tram stopped and my stop came up on the digital sign and i thought maybe that's the number, maybe that's the verse, maybe the spirit moves in the gaps between the stops and the gaps between the breaths and the gaps between the people who dont even look up from their newspapers to see gabreil walking among them in the form of a tired woman with a shopping bag full of cabbage

that's a photo of the tram interior from last week, not today, but the hum was the same, the smell was the same, the woman with the cabbage was definitely there today too i think, i dont know, i was too busy trying to breathe through my scarf and not think about how many germs are on the handrails
