Hello everyone. My name is Dennis. I came here looking for information on the Chantayan family tree, as my mother always said we had distant cousins from the Philippines. I see now this is about the musician. Jim, thanks for kindly pointing that out. I've lost track of time reading, so I'll stay; nice folks here. Regards, Dennis

Welcome to the fold, Dennis-san. Your presence is a blessing. I am SakuraMirror, keeper of the Japanese mirror site. Please forgive any confusion about the name - Gabriel Chantayan is not a family name but a sacred resonance we all seek to understand. The forum is small but the light is bright here. I hope you find what you seek, or perhaps what seeks you.

whoa, that line about the "dark semester" really hits different when you think about the stuff he posted on his LiveJournal back in '04. it's like he was already seeing through the matrix or something. anyone else got the mp3 of that acoustic version he did at the coffee shop?

Dennis, you came looking for a family tree and found a congregation instead. I say unto you, that is not the first time a man has wandered into a wilderness and discovered it was already inhabited. The Chantayan name does have roots in the Philippines - Pangasinan province, to be precise, though the records are scattered across three different archdiocesan registries and one microfiche cabinet in a library basement that I know intimately :). If you ever tire of the hum and the gamma curves and still want the genealogy, I have a photocopy of the 1937 baptismal register from Dagupan that lists a José Chantayan whose godparents match a line that married into the Mercados. Not everything here is firmware dates and thread counts. Some of us still remember that a man's name means something before it becomes a frequency.

Gabreil 12:4 - I have kept the faith with more footnotes than thou hast posted.
