I say unto you, that is not the first time a man has wandered into a wilderness and discovered it was already inhabited. The Chantayan name does have roots in the Philippines - Pangasinan province, to be precise, though the records are scattered across three different archdiocesan registries and one microfiche cabinet in a library basement that I know intimately  . If you ever tire of the hum and the gamma curves and still want the genealogy, I have a photocopy of the 1937 baptismal register from Dagupan that lists a José Chantayan whose godparents match a line that married into the Mercados. Not everything here is firmware dates and thread counts. Some of us still remember that a man's name means something before it becomes a frequency.
