| EuroTrash_Herr666 Inner Circle ★★★★★    Posts: 882 Reputation: +17 ■■ Joined: Jul 14, 2006 From: Berlin (sprawling on a park bench, obviously) | so my tante in köln forwarded me one of those "this is a real warning from microsoft support" emails today and i have to share it because the level of craftsmanship is genuinely embarrasing. it claims windows 95 "will be discontinued on january 12 2003" and you need to "send this to everyone in your address book immediately or microsoft will delete your account"  . januar 12 2003 was a sunday first of all, nobody discontinues an OS on a weekend, and second microsoft doesn't delete accounts via email chain. that's not how any of this works. the from field is "microsoft_support_2000@hotmail.com" which is objectively the funniest address i've ever seen. and at the bottom it says "this is not a hoax - disgruntled microsoft employees have confirmed this" which is the textual equivalent of putting "  " after a threat. the misspellings alone are a treasure: "discontinued" spelled three different ways in three paragraphs. i'm archiving this here so that in ten years when someone finds a printout in a basement they'll know exactly what year the hoax peaked  "the evidence is on a bench in berlin at dawn and nobody on this board has seen it" -- EuroTrash_Herr666, 2006 |
