I asked him if he could compile a kernel from scratch. Blank stare.
I asked him if he knew what a syscall was without googling it. He goes "well I could look it up."
I asked him when the last time he touched a terminal emulator was. "I use the GUI, that's the point, it's evolved."
MY BROTHER THINKS USING A GUI MAKES YOU MORE EVOLVED. He literally argued that clicking icons is a higher state of being than typing commands. I reminded him that every Linux GUI is just a wrapper around commands HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO WRITE.
Then he says "at least I'm not on Windows like some kinda sheep." I don't even USE Windows primarily. I run FreeBSD on my desktop and Debian on the laptop I fished out of a dumpster last year. But oh no, suddenly I'm a "Windows sheep" because I pointed out that Ubuntu's default theme looks like someone sneezed on a burrito.
My mom came in screaming at both of us about the volume. My brother goes "MOM, HE'S BEING ELITIST." The guy running a distro he installed by watching a YouTube tutorial called ME elitist.
Anyway. This is the hill I die on. Linux does not make you more evolved. Running Arch doesn't make you a philosopher. Using Gentoo doesn't make you a shaman. You know what makes you more evolved? Actually knowing what you're talking about. My brother doesn't. Case closed.
If ANYONE here wants to defend the "Linux users are evolved" position, bring proof. I want to see your kernel config. I want to see your bash_history. I want to see you explain an inode without copy-pasting from Wikipedia. Otherwise, get rekt.
