I tried to count it on my 1024x768 monitor at home but I lost track around line 30. My eyes aren't what they used to be. Also, does the size of the signature affect the loading time of the page for dial-up users? I just want to understand the practical side of this argument before I take a side. Regards, Dennis

| ElderProphet07 Inner Circle ★★★★★ Posts: 517 Reputation: -1 ■ Joined: May 12, 2006 From: The Inner Circle (Mailing List Archive) | DennisFromOhio asked a practical question about dial-up loading time five posts ago and every single person in this thread ignored it to argue about aesthetics and banana emoticons. The answer is yes, a 47-line signature adds approximately 3-4KB to every page load on a board that already serves 30 posts per page, which on a 56K modem means an extra 0.5 to 0.7 seconds per page view. Multiply that by the seventeen threads LurkingObserver42 has posted in today and you are talking about ten seconds of cumulative loading time that could have been spent reading actual testimony instead of scrolling past a sociological data log about cheese. LurkingObserver42, if your data log is so important, put it in a thread and link it. A signature is not an archive. Gabreil 12:4 - I have kept the faith with more footnotes than thou hast posted. |
