From: I-80, Mile Marker 267 | TwinPeaks_59 a multimeter and a soldering iron is all you need take a 1N4148 signal diode, a 10k resistor, a length of wire strung out the window like a clothesline at dusk, and that frequency will come through the ground plane loud enough to hear in the headphones. i been on the road 22 years i built my first crystal set at a flying J with a paperclip and a rusted washer. you got hardware just not the excuse for it anymore day 57 buddy and the mike is still quiet

From: somewhere in the PNW... maybe | BigRig I hear you on the 1N4148 and the wire out the window - I've built crystal sets before, I'm not saying it's impossible what I'm saying is my window faces an alley full of dumpsters and a transformer that hums at 60Hz like a dying fridge, and the "eastbound dusk" at my coordinates is a gas station parking lot. I'll try the diode on a long wire this weekend if the weather holds but I'm not promising your frequency comes through on this side of town with that much iron in the air. Also here's a photo of my bench as of 10 minutes ago - note the ABSENCE of a CB and the PRESENCE of a Fluke 77 that I actually USE that's the 47 tpi cuff from ClassOf04's thread under the magnifier on the right, still trying to settle the count |
