it was three dollars and the woman selling it said it had been in her garage since 2003 (*author's note: the year the hum began, i am not saying this is a sign but i am saying this is a sign*)

the candle in the painting is orange, same as the porch swing glow, and the girl is standing in a doorway that could be any doorway but feels like THE doorway

i did not buy it because my hands were shaking but now i am thinking i should have gone back

the canvas smells like burnt vellum, exactly like CharcoalSoul_88 described in the chapter 12 thread

i left my phone number on a sticky note on her table, hope she calls

(*next chapter is almost ready, the amber vessel chapter, it is taking longer because every time i think i have the right metaphor for the candle another one appears like this painting and i have to start over*)

THE doorway??? it's a YARD SALE painting from 2003, not the freakin' monolith (and also the thumbnail from the Tsukuba stream is a 16x16 pixel jpeg from 1998, not a velvet painting, but okay?? )
