Mailed my mother's birthday card today. Fourteen days of buffer I calculated for the transatlantic crossing - this is, as it turns out, approximately thirteen days more than the Ohio postal worker at the counter recommended with a straight face. "It'll get there, man" was his professional assessment

I am not complaining. I am documenting. If the card arrives on the correct date, I will have established that the American postal system runs on a combination of hope and entropy, and I will adjust my methodology accordingly for the next occasion.
