TwinPeaks_59, what time of day are you planning to drive out there. The sun angle changes whether that mailbox reads as green or grey-green or just grey, and Gabreil's line says "the mailbox was green where the road gave out" not "the mailbox was greenish at 2pm in August." If you hit it at noon you are only seeing the shadow of what stood at dawn. I wrote out Gabreil 12:4 this morning on an index card if you want the exact wording for the drive.

I ask cause I remember that whole ruckus back when you brought up the VX2000 footage and people got into it about the sensor and the gamma and all that. If you show up with a disposable from the gas station and the mailbox turns out to be green but the photo makes it look brown, we're gonna be right back where we started with the VX2000 debate all over again. And if you bring one of them new digital cameras that do the auto-color-balance thing, the camera might decide the green mailbox is actually grey and "correct" it right out of the evidence before you even get home.

My daughter has one of them little digital cameras she got for Christmas last year and it has a setting for "vivid" and a setting for "normal" and I swear to you I took a picture of my coffee maker readin 1:47 one morning and it came out lookin like the screen was orange cause the camera decided to "warm up" the colors. So I'm just sayin, whatever you bring, maybe check the color settings before you point it at that mailbox.

I was at the library this mornin on Far Hills lookin up my great-uncle in the county death index on microfilm and the librarian helped me thread the machine. Took a picture of the record when I found it. Felt good to find somethin real on a reel instead of guessin from a screen

Dennis is right about the cheap cameras. The auto-white-balance on those point-and-shoots will turn any green into brown if the lighting isn't perfect. If TwinPeaks brings the VX2000, he needs to set it to manual white balance with a gray card. The CCD sensor won't lie if you don't let the auto-settings mess it up. PM me if he needs the exact menu path for the manual WB mode.

The camera question is the actual methodological anchor that nobody else in this thread has addressed and it is EXACTLY what I was going to say when I got here

Dennis you are asking the right variable. The sensor calibration determines whether the mailbox color data is usable or noise. If TwinPeaks shows up with a camera that auto-white-balances the green into grey-brown, we have spent three weeks arguing about a mailbox color that was corrected out of existence before the shutter even closed. That's not research, that's garbage in garbage out with a gas station receipt

And the VX2000 gamma issue from the old thread is NOT resolved. TwinPeaks I am not asking you to bring a gray card, I am telling you to bring one. PM TechAngel_00 for the manual WB menu path if you need it. If you show up Saturday and the camera lies about the green, we get nothing. If you bring a gray card and manual white balance, we get USABLE DATA that cross-references to column K row 47 in the route table

Also LyrikUebersetzer - QFT on the "ground truth not spreadsheet cells" point. I live in spreadsheets but I know the difference between a cell reference and a physical coordinate. You opened the map, you traced the road, you annotated the terminus. That's real. The photorevision margin is off by 0.25mi but the METHODOLOGY is correct and I respect that even if I flagged the error

TwinPeaks when you flip that mailbox over (and you WILL flip it over ) the USPS serial plate tells us if the box is original to the route or a replacement. Column A row 47 in my route table expects a continuous stamp number. If it's broken, the county swapped it and the green we're looking for isn't the green Gabreil saw. THAT is a data point worth driving 47 miles for

FlameFury24 - you cited e69de29bb2d1d6434b8b29ae775ad8c2e48c5391 as my column K in topic 1418 but you skipped the hidden sheet checksum I posted in 1329 which resolves row 47 anchor to a different object entirely. The SHA-1 of an empty string is column K row 44, not row 47. You are reading the wrong row

Also I drove past a green mailbox on CR-47 last Saturday and the USPS serial plate was mounted with Phillips-head screws, not cross-tip. That changes the manufacture year bracket and I have the photograph to prove it. TwinPeaks I will bring the gray card reference if you bring the VX2000

DennisFromOhio - real good question. I'm bringin two: the VX2000 with manual WB like Scribe wants AND a cheap digital that I'll set to "cloudy" white balance instead of auto. If they match, great. If they dont, the VX2000 with a gray card wins

Scribe - Phillips head screws on the USPS plate is actually new data that means post-1994 manufacture bracket per the fastener standard change. I'll check yours against whatever I find Saturday and we can compare binding years.

anyway saturday morning I'm leavin at 6:47am (for the obvious reason ) and I'll post whatever I find. green mailbox or bust. the cat already told us the 47 was in the 34 so maybe the mailbox knows the rest
