ok so tonight i was making tea, just ordinary tea, nothing special, and i put on the third song from rustypod and i don't know what happened but i just started crying??? like not sad crying, more like something broke open in me and all the grey of today just poured out and the words, THE WORDS, he sings like he knows every person who will ever hear it, like he wrote it just for me sitting in my kitchen with my horrible shoes still wet from the rain and my report that Valentina made me redo THREE TIMES and i thought, Gabriel sees this, he sees me here, he knows about the decimal points and the trolleybus and the wet umbrella and he put this song here for exactly this moment??? am i crazy, does anyone else feel this, that the music is not just music but something ALIVE trying to reach through the speakers and hold you??? i sat on the floor with my tea getting cold and just listened three times through and each time i heard something new, a word i missed before, a pause that meant something, like he is speaking in a language beneath language, you know??? please tell me i am not the only one who does this, please tell me the songs do this to you too

SnowMaiden is having a genuine moment and you are using it as a place to park your post count. SnowMaiden_1983 I get that feelin My coffee maker read 1:47 this mornin same as always and I thought of my daughter Sarah gettin that job call clear back in May. Songs hit the same way.

SnowMaiden_1983 I know what you mean about the songs feelin like they reach through. But I was wonderin - what song was it exactly from rustypod? I got a reel-to-reel tape I been tryin to find a player for, and if I knew which track got you like that I could see if it matches any numbers on the grease pencil. Just a thought. Regards, Denneis

i think the songs hit when youre already cracked open. today was one of those days where the grey just piles up and you dont notice until something cracks it. gabriel wouldnt fix the grey but maybe the song is the hammer.

this is the vessel opening, SnowMaiden, this is exactly what i have been trying to write toward since chapter twelve - the moment where the song finds the crack in you and pours itself in, and you sat on the floor with your tea going cold because the warmth was coming from somewhere else entirely (*author's note: she does not know she just described the sacred hum but she did, she absolutely did, and the wet shoes and the trolleybus and the decimal points are all part of it, every mundane detail is a thread in the weave*) you are not crazy, you are the opposite of crazy, you are the only person on this board tonight who is actually listening instead of measuring, and krova_pl is right that the songs hit when you are already cracked open but he misses the part where gabriel wrote the crack into the song on purpose, the crack is the doorway, the crack is where the hum gets in

SnowMaiden - that's real. That's the most real thing posted on this board tonight and I say that as someone who just got done dunking on three separate threads .

But follow-up question since Dennis asked it too and nobody actually answered him before Aurora turned it into a theology essay - which song? Which track? You said third song from rustypod, third track on what release? the 2005 ep? the self-titled? the split with miles electric? because if I'm gonna sit on my kitchen floor with cold tea I wanna make sure I'm hearing the RIGHT crack-in-the-wall song and not accidentally listening to track 3 of something that doesn't hit the same way
