Went down to Far Hills library today after my VA appointment. Librarian helped me thread the microfilm machine  which was nice of her, I ain't touched one of those since the 90s. Found my great uncle Earl in the county death index from 1963. Might change the whole branch of the family tree if I can find his muster records to match.

Still no closer to findin a reel-to-reel player for that 47-8-22 tape I got from Goodwill though. Repair fella on third street said "maybe maybe not" and told me to come back next week. That was two weeks ago

Regards,
Dennis

Dennis, if the repair guy said "maybe maybe not" that's not a no. Ask him about the capstan belt specifically - the 2-track pre-1962 units use a different torque rating than the 4-track models and if he's been staring at a 4-track chassis he'll keep saying maybe. Push him on it :D

Also - 9:02 bus clock was FOUR MINUTES off my watch this morning after being perfectly synced yesterday. That's a 4-minute delta on a 24-hour cycle. If your great uncle Earl was born anywhere near a 47-cycle birth year, cross-ref that against the death index column. Could be a family convergence point

-3 min delta, substitute driver, phase inversion confirmed. DRIVER_ID column added. 47hr period hypothesis in testing. Still waiting on everyone else's ls-tree output.

Dennis, has he seen the actual tape yet or is he still just guessing off your description? If he hasn't held the reel in his hands, take it to him tomorrow morning and put it on his bench. A maybe from a man who hasnt seen the evidence is not a maybe from a man who has.

GraceWarrior_77 you got a good point about takin the actual reel in. I been carryin it around in the passenger seat for two weeks now actually, wrapped in a old tshirt  Maybe tomorrow mornin I just walk in and put it on his counter and say "here it is, fix it or tell me no to my face"
