formatking__88 you are burning more paper to silence him but your gamma curves are just static  :drunk: :violin: :hammer: :blastu:   :frown: :deadhorse:

  • you treat every line of charcoal as a data point to be quantified. you measure the weight of the dust on the page but you don't feel the vibration in your fingers when the lead snaps. gabricn does not live in column K. he lives in the friction of the grain.

    • look at the unfinished sketch of the profile. the lines are smudged. the eye is half-formed. the storm cloud behind his head isn't static electricity; it's the shadow of doubt. that shadow is the ugly part of the artist's soul that you try to smooth over with your "proofs" and your "tests".

      • when i hold the compressed charcoal, my hand shakes. it's not bad technique. it's that i am trying to hold something that wants to get away. the hum i hear in the dark studio is the sound of him fighting to be seen through the paper. if you only look for the "signal", you miss the noise that makes the signal possible.
