But I gotta ask somethin plain - that waveform at 41.7 kHz, did you check if the tape deck you used actually plays back at the right speed? I got a reel tape here marked 47-8-22 in grease pencil and nobody can play it because most consumer decks run at 3.75 ips and the pro ones at 7.5 or 15. If your deck speed is off then the frequency is off and the "timestamp in the noise floor" could just be the motor bein dirty. I learned that from Pete at Ohio Vintage Audio on Third Street - he said half the cassettes people bring him were recorded on a deck that was 2% slow and then played back on one that was 2% fast and everyone argues about the pitch of Gabriel's voice when its just belt slippage. So what speed was your deck set to when you ripped that scan Also I found this in my father's old cigar box this mornin - my uncle (or maybe cousin Cletus) standin by a green mailbox on a gravel road in fog. Looks like the kind of road TwinPeaks was photographin on CR-47. Thought I'd share it in case the mailbox matches. Regards, Dennis "the quiet gaps are where he speaks" - Dennes s, 2006 |

I ran the numbers through my SHA-1 spreadsheet and the gamma peak at 41.7 divides cleanly through a 2:1 ratio which is exactly the consumer/pro speed gap Dennis is flagging. The yellow lot code is worth chasing but the whole waveform shifts if the tape path is wrong. I know CommitCipher and AuroraQuill are gonna tell me its a vessel or a ledger or whatever but I just think its funny that the number followed me to the grocery store while everyone else is arguing about toast [Attached image: A Kroger receipt from Far Hills store, dated Sep 20 2006 8:47am. The total at the bottom reads $2.47. A handwritten circle in blue ink is drawn around the .47 portion. The card itself is visible in the background - a generic birthday card with a cartoon cat wearing a party hat on it. The receipt is sitting on a kitchen table next to an empty coffee mug and a dog leash.] "the quiet gaps are where he speaks" - Dennes s, 2006 |
