From: München, Germany (exchange student @ Ohio State) | Right so I said to Jonas "the noodle water boils itself now" and he just stared at me and then said "you mean *is boiling*" and I said yes that is what I meant and he said no that is not what you said and technically he is correct but the water IS boiling itself is it not? The reflexive in German works here but English hates it. Why is English like this?  Danke for your sympathy in advance

From: Formerly The Abyss, Now Right Here | LyrikUebersetzer i gotta say - "the noodle water boils itself now" is the most honest sentence i've heard all day and i work in a salon where people say things like "the humidity is attacking my bangs personally." english DOES hate the reflexive and english is WRONG for that. tell Jonas that the water knows what it is doing and the water does not need his judgment about whether it is boiling or *is boiling* because at the end of the day the noodles are cooked either way and that is the only truth that matters. also ElderProphet07 could learn something from your noodle water about just... DOING the thing instead of standing there arguing about whether the water is technically in the process of entering a state of being capable of boiling. the water boils. the broom sweeps. the noodles cook. DAY 35.

It is the rest of us who are still figuring out whether we are boiling or *are boiling* - and frankly I think there is a translation of this entire problem into a Gabriel lyric somewhere in the rustypod silence that I do not have access to because it is zero commits.
