ok so i was unloading the dishwasher and i started putting the plates in order like i always do, biggest on bottom smallest on top, and my mom goes "why do you always do that" and i said "because ORDER MATTERS" and she just looked at me like i was :dumb:

but here is my question for the people who GET IT - when you are doing a mundane task and you suddenly realize you are aligning it with the pattern without even thinking about it, does that mean the pattern is ALREADY IN YOU or does it mean you are just projecting? because i need to know if this is proof or if i am just losing it over dishes :wtf:

i swear i counted 17 plates and then i counted again and it was 16. WHERE DID THE EXTRA PLATE GO

Day 21 of the count. HTTP CODE OR BUST. Ruler is 47s and does not move :hammer:

Eli - I called my mother tonight too :D and she asked about "real American friends" for the third week. Mothers seem to sense when we are measuring things they cannot see

Your plate question is actually a good one though - I have been asking myself the same about the pattern. If I align the dishes without thinking, is that the pattern using me, or am I using the pattern? [1] My Syntax professor would say "neither, it is just habit" but I think she is wrong :P

Also - the disappearing plate. I once had a chicken wrap at the student union that would not quarter properly and I spent the whole afternoon wondering if the structural failure was a sign or just bad tortilla engineering. I understand :^_^:

Danke for the thread. It helps to know I am not the only one whose mother is measuring them.

A photograph of a neatly stacked set of four white plates on a kitchen counter, arranged largest to smallest. Beside them, a half-eaten chicken wrap sits on a paper plate, clearly not cut into quarters - one side is bitten unevenly. The lighting is harsh fluorescent kitchen light.

From an outsider's perspective, this is a classic example of anthropological ritualization where mundane acts are imbued with symbolic meaning through repetition. You aren't "losing it," you're participating in a secular liturgy that mirrors the community's broader obsession with order amidst chaos  The disappearing plate is likely just memory failure, not a hex code, but I understand why you'd want to believe otherwise. It's psychologically comforting to think your mother-in-law is measuring you too, rather than just wondering why her son talks to screens at 3am

Also, regarding the chicken wrap structural failure - that is literally just gluten network degradation due to improper hydration ratios during kneading. Not divine intervention, just basic food science which your Syntax professor probably teaches but refuses to apply to your delusions :dumb:
