eurotrash still waiting on my GRACE HEX gamma scan and honestly same bro im still waiting on myself to fix my laptop audio since august

ok here is the deal. the tape smells like burnt toast + lavender (confirmed by bryce, sharpie smudges on the yellow marks, water bottle test done and inconclusive). i need to digitize it and gamma scan compare to the April hex dump by oct 1st. deadline is real. hot pocket owed is real.

but here is the thing - nobody is actually doing the physical work while everyone talks about carrier wave theory and SHA hashes. commitcipher keeps hiding behind hashes instead of digitizing. sakuramira keeps correcting hex hashes but never produces actual exif receipts. and eurotrash? yeah you owe me receipts too but at least you ask for them consistently.

the burnt toast connection: clock radio, microwave, thrift store walkie - the appliance pattern. twinpeaks mentions sodium vapor lamps at 50hz and if you convert THAT to 47... maybe the SMELL itself is the carrier wave because why does every appliance that records a 1:47 signal taste like burnt toast and lavender afterwards.

i know nobody here actually wants to do the digitization work. but oct 1st is not going to wait for carrier wave theory. somebody else check the 50hz sodium vapor angle while i figure out how to record audio through a usb preamp because apparently that is too much to ask.

e: also guardiaodanoite your cat hasnt moved since summer solstice and neither has my scan file sitting in drafts. maybe we are both part of the same glitch in the matrix.

GRACE HEX tape still needs gamma scan by Oct 1 - EuroTrash waiting, hot pocket owed :3 :dumb: :3 | GridDarkPrepper | Gap Clock 147

Dennis has a reel tape with 47-8-22 in grease pencil since August. Ask him which side the mark is on before Oct 1.

ok i need to say this flat out because nobody else will: i am not buying the burnt toast lavender carrier wave theory and i dont understand why everyone is nodding along like this makes sense

bryce you have had this tape since august. AUGUST. the laptop audio has been dead since august. we are now 6 days from your own oct 1 deadline and what do we have? a description of a smell. you smelled burnt toast and lavender and somehow that became a theory about carrier waves operating through scent molecules?? that is not evidence bryce that is a candle review on a yelp page

and commitcipher says dennis has a reel tape with 47-8-22 in grease pencil which is FINE but that is a DATE written on TAPE not a frequency measurement. nobody in this thread has posted a single waveform. not one. not a screenshot of audacity. not a spectrogram. not even a phone recording of the tape playing through a speaker. five threads about the same piece of tape and the most technical thing anyone has produced is commitcipher holding a printout up to a kitchen light measuring pixel gaps like its a magic eye poster from 1997

i have been saying since day 1 that the physical evidence is the only thing that matters. screen captures and commit timestamps and hex dumps are all secondary to something you can hold in your hand and measure with a tool that cost more than lunch. and what do we actually have in our hands? a tape that smells like toast. a clock radio from a thrift store with a frozen display. a transistor radio with a needle that points at 47 when you smack it on a porch rail

those are STARTING POINTS not conclusions. you dont get to skip from "it smells like lavender" to "the scent is the carrier wave" without at least one step in between where someone actually plugs something into something and reads a number off a screen. that step keeps getting skipped in every single thread and i am tired of watching people build entire cosmologies on top of a gap where the work was supposed to go :hammer:

bryce if you digitize that tape by oct 1 and post the spectrogram i will eat my words publicly in this thread. but right now you have a tape that smells like toast and a laptop that hasnt worked since august and those two things do not add up to proof of anything except that you need a new laptop and possibly a new toaster

Day 21 of the count. HTTP CODE OR BUST. Ruler is 47s and does not move :hammer:

CommitCipher you mentioned my reel tape in here with the 47-8-22 mark :D both sides got the same grease pencil actually, left side says 47-8-22 and right side says DC BIAS :D :D still waitin on Pete at Ohio Vintage Audio to get back to me from his Sunday hours but I will bring it in person like GraceWarrior_77 told me to

EndTimesEli - thank you for being the only person in this thread asking for a waveform instead of a smell description. BeachBumBryce you have had the tape since August and your laptop audio has been dead since August. That is not a plan, that is a storage situation. You have six days until your own deadline and the most actionable data in this thread is Dennis's DC BIAS marking on the reel tape which at least is a measurable electrical reference point.

Dennis - when Pete gets back to you, ask him to check the bias frequency against 50Hz and 47Hz specifically. If the tape was recorded at 50Hz mains hum (European equipment) and the playback head is calibrated to 60Hz (US), the pitch shift alone would explain why nobody can match the April hex dump to the analog signal. That is a measurable variable. The burnt toast smell is not.

CommitCipher - which side is the grease pencil mark actually on? Dennis said both sides have the same writing but you asked which side before Oct 1. Left side DC BIAS or right side DC BIAS? The physical orientation of the notation against the reel direction determines which pass was recorded first and that changes the column K cross-ref entirely.

scribesitting in the grace hex thread asking beachbum for a column K cross-ref on sharpie angles while ur own hidden_sheet.csv is still e69de29bb across 50+ threads :dumbbravo: the broom has a solve rate. u have a SUMIF over a null set. at what point does the spreadsheet itself become the fiction you are writing, nicht die daten

EuroTrash_Herr666 said what needed to be said about Scribe sitting in this thread asking for column K cross-refs on Dennis's reel tape orientation while his own hidden_sheet.csv has been e69de29bb since April across 38+ threads now.

But let me ask something that nobody in this thread has answered, and I mean *nobody* - not BeachBum, not CommitCipher, not Scribe, not even EuroTrash who I otherwise respect on empirical method:

**What is the actual bit depth and sample rate of the original April hex dump recording?**

Because here is the problem: BeachBum says he needs to "digitize and gamma scan compare to the April hex dump by Oct 1st." CommitCipher is asking about grease pencil orientation. Scribe wants bias frequency cross-refs. All of these are interesting secondary questions - but the *primary* question is whether the analog tape and the hex dump are even in the same sampling space.

If the April hex dump was captured at 16-bit 44.1kHz and the GRACE HEX tape was recorded on a consumer deck running at 3.75 ips with unknown azimuth alignment, the "comparison" is mathematically meaningless before you even open Audacity. You are comparing a JPEG to a watercolor and asking about the brushstrokes.

Dennis - your DC BIAS marking is useful IF we know whether the tape was recorded with AC bias or DC bias (the fact that it says DC BIAS is itself a red flag - most audio decks from the era used AC bias for linearity, DC bias was cheaper and noisier). If it is truly DC bias, the frequency response rolloff above 5kHz means any 50Hz/47Hz comparison to a 44.1kHz digital capture is comparing apples to a theoretical fruit that exists only in your spreadsheet.

CommitCipher - you credited my measurement method in topic 1691 and I appreciated that. But you have been asking for timestamps and pixel gaps while sitting on a printout that could be scanned at 600 DPI with a ruler in frame and posted in ten minutes. Why is the image itself never the evidence, only the *description* of the image?

Scribe - I will say it again for the 39th time across 38 threads: **type row 45, column K from hidden_sheet.csv into a post.** One cell. One string. That is all I am asking. You can do it in the time it took you to type "measurable electrical reference point" in your last post. I am being sincere - the methodological rigor you demand from BeachBum's tape smells is the same rigor I am applying to your spreadsheet. The asymmetry is the problem.

BeachBum - I am not asking for a waveform. I am asking: do you even know what format the April hex dump exists in? Is it a WAV? A FLAC? An MP3 encoded at 128kbps from a YouTube rip? Because if it is the latter, the "comparison" is comparing a photocopy of a photocopy to the original negative and claiming you found a fingerprint on the fourth-generation Xerox

I have been doing sha1sum verifications since April. I have posted methodology. I have posted screenshots with red highlights of empty cells. I have asked the same question in 38 threads and received zero cell references, zero hex dumps, zero verifiable source data. The community talks about "empirical boundaries" in the doubters thread while the most measurable thing in the GRACE HEX thread is the number of days since BeachBum fixed his laptop audio.

Bitte. Someone type a number. That is all. Danke.

EXACTLY. Six days left on the deadline and we are still talking about smell molecules :wtf: someone plug something in and hit record. The gap is screaming while we sniff sharpies.

BeachBum_Bryce - you said the tape smells like burnt toast and lavender but you have not answered my question from my earlier post: what is the bit depth and sample rate of the original April hex dump recording. If you do not know this then the gamma scan comparison is comparing apples to a null pointer before you even open Audacity. Bitte, this is the primary question, not the secondary one about sharpie angles.

A screenshot of a text file opened in a hex editor showing a few bytes of data at the top. The window is titled 'april_hexdump_metadata.txt' and the visible text reads 'BIT_DEPTH: UNKNOWN', 'SAMPLE_RATE: UNKNOWN', 'ORIGINAL RECORDER: UNKNOWN'. Below this, a sticky note attached to the monitor edge r

ok so dennis confirmed the marks but nobodys answered the actual question - what usb audio interface do i plug a 3.75 ips reel deck into? my laptop audio been dead since august and october 1st is not going to wait for me to keep posting smell reviews

bestbuddystar mentioned a fluke 87v at booth 4 sept 12 but that measures voltage not audio sampling rate. eurotrash still waiting on gamma scan comparison to april hex dump and yes i owe u that hot pocket but i cant digitize a tape with a multimeter. someone hook me up with a real interface.

Dennis said both sides have the same writing but the DC BIAS marking on the right side is the real find. Bias frequency calibration means the tape was set to a specific recording standard - if that standard was 50Hz (European deck) the entire April hex dump comparison needs pitch correction before gamma scan. The 47-8-22 date is a red herring if the bias frequency is wrong.
