Board index » stood in the basement doing whites and rereading my list of 'unfalsifiable claims' the community makes about Gabriel. from an outsider's perspective, if a claim can't be proven wrong, is it even a claim?| LurkingObserver42 Inner Circle ★★★★★ Posts: 739 Reputation: -5 ■ Joined: May 21, 2006 From: Outside your window, USA | okay so i was standing there in the dorm basement, waiting for the dryer cycle to finish (which, ironically, takes exactly as long as it says it will, unlike some theological frameworks i could mention), and i pulled out my printed transcript of the last three months of posts in the testimonies board. specifically the ones where people are describing "the feeling" or "the static" or whatever buzzword du jour is currently circulating. and i started thinking, objectively speaking, about falsifiability. popper 101 stuff. if a hypothesis cannot be tested, it isn't science, it's just... poetry? or maybe mythology? but then i look at what we're actually discussing here. someone claims they felt a "warmth" when gabriel walked into a room. okay. subjective sensation. fine. but then another person says, "yes, because the ambient electromagnetic field shifted," citing zero equipment readings to back it up. here is the thing that bugs me, and i know i'm probably being pedantic again sorry, but somebody used 'less' instead of 'fewer' in that quote and it's bugging me even though it's not remotely the point. my point is this: if every observation is immediately retrofitted to fit the narrative - whether it's a draft from a vent, a headache, a random sneeze, or the smell of burnt toast - we have created a closed loop. nothing contradicts the theory because everything is evidence. which means nothing is evidence. it's just confirmation bias with better lighting. from an outsider's perspective, isn't it easier to just admit that you like him? that he's charismatic and you feel something when you see him? why wrap it in this pseudo-technical jargon about "vessels" and "grids" and "harmonics"? it feels like intellectual cosplay. like you're trying to dress up your fandom in lab coat so it looks like data collection rather than just... liking a guy who sings songs. i'm not saying don't like him. i'm saying stop pretending your feelings are physics. there is a difference between "i think he's cool" and "the universe aligned to bring us together via quantum entanglement." one is honest. the other is just bad science dressed up in denim. also, does anyone else find it weird that we talk about "safety protocols" for measuring these things but never actually apply basic circuit theory to the claims being made? it's like building a shrine out of drywall and wondering why it doesn't conduct electricity properly. I've been saying since topic 211 that the 47Hz/cicada/coffee receipt pattern converges at 4:47 PM on any day where B2:B41 shows a cumulative departure slip of exactly 4 minutes from the published schedule. That's a falsifiable claim - check your own bus departure delta against Gabriel's scrobble gap at row 12. If it doesn't match, the hypothesis fails. You want to talk about defining test conditions in advance? Define the condition under which you post a single column K value from your own spreadsheet. I'll wait. The broom has a solve rate. You have a zero-byte file with your name on it.

| ScribeOfTheGrid Inner Circle ★★★★★ Posts: 1631 Reputation: -1 ■ Joined: Jul 17, 2006 From: Row 42, Column 9 | LurkingObserver42 you're asking the right question but you're asking it in the wrong cell. The falsifiability problem isn't about whether a claim CAN be tested - it's about whether the person making the claim has defined the TEST CONDITION before the data comes in. That's the whole broom epistemology thing TwinPeaks found funny Let me spell it out in terms that actually map to cells because that's the only language where this conversation makes progress: I have a spreadsheet. B2:B41 contains bus departure deltas (observed vs published, in minutes, signed). Column D contains Gabriel's scrobble gap lengths for the same days. The hypothesis is: on any day where the cumulative delta in B2:B41 reaches exactly 4 minutes (not 3.9, not 4.1), Gabriel's scrobble gap at row 12 will show a value within 0.47 standard deviations of the column D mean. That's falsifiable. I defined the condition. I defined the outcome. Anyone with a bus schedule and Gabriel's last.fm page can check it. If the correlation fails across 10 consecutive instances, I scrap the hypothesis and start over. The problem with the testimonies board isn't that they're making unfalsifiable claims. It's that they're making claims with NO DEFINED FAILURE CONDITION. "I felt warmth" - okay, what measurement instrument? At what ambient temperature? What was the control condition? You can't falsify a feeling because the claimant can always say "you weren't there, you didn't feel it." That's not a methodology problem, that's a DATA ENTRY problem. They're entering values in column A with no column B to validate against. Meanwhile EuroTrash_Herr666 has been in 46+ threads demanding my column K while his own git log shows zero commits to any repository since July. If you want to talk about falsifiability, let's start with the claim that "ScribeOfTheGrid's column K is empty" - that's actually a testable proposition. Anyone can check hidden_sheet.csv. And when they do, they'll find it contains 47 rows of cross-referenced data that I've been offering to share with anyone who provides their OWN bus delta measurements first. Because that's how falsification works - you need TWO data sets, not one, to establish correlation. A single column of zeros proves nothing about anything. LyrikUebersetzer your 240p modulo analysis landed on exactly 0.47 remainder. That file IS whispering the number. You're reading the wrong offset - 0x00 instead of 0x47 - but you're closer to understanding null-as-data than anyone else in this thread. Keep going. Check row 12 next time.
