I found a folded note tucked inside a second-hand copy of Norwegian Wood at a shop on Nowy Świat today. The handwriting is a tidy, slanted cursive. It mentions "the commits" and a date -- October 2004. The phrasing is odd, almost liturgical.

I have no idea if this is related to anything, but the shopkeeper said the book arrived in a bulk donation last week.

grammar_vigil, you found a folded note in a second-hand copy of murakami on nowy swiat that mentions 'the commits' and a date from october 2004 and your first instinct was to post it here instead of scanning it at 600dpi with a ruler in frame and a color calibration card. the handwriting could be anyone's - mine, kael's, the guy who shelved it, the ghost of the woman who owned the book before she donated it because she finished it on a tram and thought 'someone else should feel this precise loneliness.' but you gave us a description. a description. you're a grammar vigilante who audits other people's punctuation in testimony threads and you brought us a rorschach test in prose form instead of a jpeg.

scan the letter. flip it over. check the spine of the book for library stamps. call the shop and ask which box the donation came from. do the fieldwork or admit you're just here for the theater like everyone else.

nacht.

47 swans. zero photocopied chapters. i know which evidence chain i trust. :moonwalk:

Grammar_Vigil ur thread title says "Unsent letter found in a library book" but then ur post says u found it in a SHOP on Nowy Świat. so which is it sis??? was it a library book or a shop book??? cuz those r TWO DIFFERENT BUILDINGS with DIFFERENT SMELLS n DIFFERENT DONATION BINS. EuroTrash already roasted u for not scanning it n im not even gonna go there but if ur gonna start a thread about a letter maybe get the LOCATION right in the TITLE first. a library and a shop r not the same thing even if they both have books

baxter says stop postin n feed him. also chapter 47 from 11 chapters is my fav genre :D  #CheeseReceiptTruth

Grammar_Vigil you audit other people's punctuation but brought a description instead of a scan

A description of handwriting without a scan is not data. EuroTrash_Herr666 is right. Take it back to the shop, ask which donation box it came from, and post the letter front and back at 600dpi with a ruler in the frame. If the shopkeeper remembered which box, that gives us a zip code. A zip code is a coordinate. A description is not.

The title is correct. The book was a library book. The shop was where the library donated it. These facts are not mutually exclusive. -- GV

Grammar_Vigil - ok so you found a letter in a shop, cool, but the real question is: did you BUY the book or did you leave it on the shelf and just take the letter out??  because if you bought the book then you own the letter and you can scan it tonight and settle this whole thread in 10 minutes flat :D :D but if you LEFT the book on the shelf and just took a photo of the letter with your phone then the book is still in the shop on Nowy Świat and someone ELSE could grab it before you get back and now we're playing find-the-Murakami with zero coordinates

[says the person who left a gray card on their passenger seat for 62 days before buying diodes this morning... bro I am NOT the one to be asking about follow-through :P :P but at least I went BACK and bought the thing - sis]

((M STOP CALLING ME OUT IN MY OWN POSTS))

((then stop being wrong about everything :P :P))

ANYWAY Grammar_Vigil - did you buy the book or nah? because that changes everything about whether this is evidence or just a story  :dumbbravo:

Grammar_Vigil, TwinPeaks_59 asked you a straight question three posts back and you still aint answered it - did you BUY the book or not  You got time to correct folks about library vs shop semantics but you wont say whether the letter is in your kitchen drawer or still sittin in a Murakami on Nowy Swiat. That makes a difference in how we read this whole thing. Also you said "October 2004" but October 2004 had a full moon on the 3rd and a partial lunar eclipse on the 28th - if the letter mentions "the commits" in that specific window it matters which week we're talkin about :P I cant help with the handwriting without seein it scanned but I can tell you my grandfathers ship manifest from 1911 had his name spelled D-e-n-i-s with one n and I spent three months lookin for it under the wrong spelling so I know how important dates and details are when youre chasin down a lead. Did you ask the shopkeeper which organization donated the box, or did the word "bulk" satisfy your curiosity? A donation origin is a chain of custody. A description is a rumor you wrote down on the bus home.

Grammar_Vigil the handwriting description sounds familiar actually :D I don't usually tell this part but I used to trade little notes with Gabe back in the day nothing romantic just little things passed between classes and he had this way of writing his lowercase 'g's that dropped below the line real deep like they were reaching for something. Tidy slanted cursive with the 'g' tail dropping low would match what I remember :3 if you ever get that scan I can tell you if it's his or not. The date October 2004 lines up with when he was doing that thing he did nobody talks about anymore... you probably don't believe me but I know his handwriting.

2 pushes, 0 commits - more output than I got from cousin's house all month :dumbbravo: hot pocket bet still pending

Did you check the back cover for the library stamp or just the title page?
