and im like "bro nobody is impressed you're writing poetry at the laundromat, we're here cause mom needs the bath mats done by saturday" and she goes "the rhythm of the spin cycle is actually really consistent with the meter in Gabriel's new piece" and i just... stared at the dryers for a solid 20 seconds.((the spin cycle IS in 4/4 time and i stand by that observation))
[sis i love you but the washing machine is not a metronome for the lord's work]
((you don't know that. YOU DONT KNOW THAT.))
ANYWAY after that we hit the taco truck by the hardware store and split al pastor and THIS is where the real content starts. i said the new song is about a breakup with his dog. M said it's about his grandmother and impermanence and the porch light metaphor. we argued for like 15 minutes while the guy making our tacos was just watching us like
((the imagery is CLEARLY about loss and memory and the way the light stays on after someone leaves. 'gone before the porch light finds the floor' - that's not a DOG, bro, that's a person he watched fade. the dog theory is INSANE and you only believe it cause you think 'bark' sounds like 'dark' in the bridge))
[bark DOES sound like dark in the bridge and i stand by the dog theory 100%. also the line about 'wet nose on the window' - SIS. SIS. THATS A DOG. THATS A DOG THING. GRANDMOTHERS DONT PRESS THEIR NOSES ON WINDOWS]
((they DO if they're looking out for you!! that's a MEMORY not a LITERAL NOSE))
[ok but explain the 'tail against the door' line then. go ahead. i'll wait.]
((that's... the rhythm of someone leaving. the back and forth. the hesitation. DOOR TAILS DON'T EXIST.))
[EXACTLY it's a DOG'S TAIL hitting the door as it walks away. case closed. M is wrong. the al pastor was good though.]
so yeah that's my day. laundromat poetry, taco truck theology, and i STILL owe BigRig a receiver build now that i finally bought the diodes this morning
((bro you didn't tell them about the RAIN part))
[oh right. so we're on the back porch at 6pm and it starts raining and M reads a new stanza out loud and it's actually... pretty good ngl. something about rain as memory coming back uninvited. and i immediately said "so it's like when you forget to close the car window and the seats get wet" and she threw a napkin at me.]
((it was a genuinely vulnerable moment and you turned it into a JOKE about upholstery))
[the seats WERE wet tho. from last week. it was relevant.]
((IT WAS NOT RELEVANT))
anyway. dog theory stands. i will die on this hill. the laundromat has made me brave.
- the twin one
[attached: photo of the al pastor taco we split, with a bottle of tamarind jarritos in the background and the edge of the hardware store awning visible. the taco is dripping orange grease onto the foil. it looks incredible.]
