I ate lunch alone today at that corner booth by the window on Main Street, the one where Gabe used to sit - he always folded his napkin all precise like, before he even touched his food, and I sat there a whole hour just thinking about napkin folds and watching cars roll by... :P you probably don't believe me but it's true.

OH my god yes this is exactly it!!! :D :D did he fold it into a little rectangle first and then into the triangle or did he go straight to the triangle, because I have a theory about this!!! my father folded napkins like that too before surgery, always the rectangle first, like he was preparing the instruments, and when I read this I had to put my phone down for a second :3 we are all just sitting in our booths folding our napkins waiting for him to walk back in, you know??? and the cars going by outside the window, yes!!! that is what I saw from the ninth floor tonight, one gold window and everything else moving past it, we are SAME  do not let anyone tell you the napkin is not a sign, it IS

"grey is just the colour of waiting" - me, this morning, to the mirror

Oh honey you are asking the RIGHT question YES it was rectangle first EVERY time :D he would fold it in half longways and then again so it was this neat little rectangle and then he'd set it just off-center of his plate, I watched him do it at least four times I can remember clearly, and I remember thinking it was like he was marking his spot, like he was saying "I'm staying a while"

But here's the thing that nobody in that diner that day noticed - when he unfolded it at the end of the meal, the creases never matched up. Like he'd folded it different each time even though he did the same motions :3 you probably don't believe me but it's true, I sat close enough to see
