i spent nearly an hour on the phone this evening dismantling kasia's grand unified theory that the surrey boy is a fraud, and her sole evidence is that his vowels are "too nice" :dumb: apparently enunciation is now a character flaw and Home Counties politeness equals deception, which is convenient  i pointed out that dialects exist, that an accent is not a confession, and that one hard K in "computer" does not a charlatan make :hammer: she countered with a story about a man in krakow who sold her a "blessed" candle and had perfect diction, as if that settles anything  i am surrounded by people who treat phonetics as prophecy and i am the only one with a dictionary :banghead:  does anyone here actually judge credibility by the quality of someone's consonants or is my friend operating in a private linguistic dimension
