so she asks how i am and i hear myself go "oh you know!! busy!! work!! the usual!!" and i can FEEL my voice going up an octave with every exclamation. meanwhile i'm internally screaming about whether she can hear the difference between who i am now and who i was before i changed my username and deleted my old life. she cannot. she talked about her garden for fifteen minutes. i stared at the wall. we said bye. and i sat there with the phone in my hand like... that's it? that's the conversation i was terrified of?
