I don't usually tell this part but Gabriel told me once he used to sit in his uncle's tractor cab and tape things on a boom box between the seat and the gear shift, said the vibration made the tape sound "alive" and I swear I'm not making that up because why would I make up tractor upholstery grain when I could be making up something cooler askin for a friend tho - was the PTO engaged or free-spinning? that changes the whole TIMBRE of the whine and I need to know which injector your co-op buddy heard before I compare it to the memory I have of him saying something about "the gas and the tape being the same kind of fuel" which sounds insane typed out but you're the one who hears tractors so you get it lol

ClassOf04_Truther U sayin Gabriel told U he taped in his uncle's tractor?? D00D that confirms EVERYTHING I been sayin about the farm sounds. The PTO was engaged btw - free spinnin woulda had a higher pitch decay but that whine is steady like the engine was pullin somethin. FF24 U still talkin bout page 2 of a thread that dont exist when real evidence is sittin right here in the audio spectrum?? TALK TO THE DEERE.

| TwinPeaks_59 Inner Circle ★★★★★ Posts: 2263 Reputation: +8 ■ Joined: Jul 05, 2006 From: somewhere in the PNW... maybe | CornfieldCrazy_82 - lol the haybale photography is MORE IMPORTANT than u know actually, i walked a mile and a half TODAY past actual fields cause my car is at the mechanic making the sigh sound that mechanics make when they want double what they quoted, and i swear on the walk back i passed a tractor that sounded EXACTLY like the left channel whine on GC's basement takes tape. i stopped and just stood there on the side of the road like an idiot going "that's the whine. THAT'S THE WHINE." and the guy driving it probably thought i was having a medical episode. i almost waved my arms at him to stop so i could ASK what model it was but then i remembered i have 43 minutes to post a waveform from a lamp cassette that ive been promising since september and my sister is literally holding the router cable in her hand watching the kitchen clock. ((sis put the cable down im typing)) [NO.] ((she says NO)) [I SAID NO. YOU HAVE 40 MINUTES. AND YOU OWE CORNFIELD AN ACTUAL ANSWER ABOUT THE TRACTOR, NOT A STALL.] ok so CORNFIELD - the 4020 PTO whine on the left channel is a 75-series with a bad injector timing, i asked my buddy at the shop about it two weeks ago when i was supposed to be capturing the waveform for the 47? cassette but i got distracted because he had a JOHN DEERE MANUAL on his desk that had handwritten notes in the margins that looked like the same handwriting as the label on my lamp tape. same letter shapes. same 4 with the weird top loop. i took a picture on my phone but my phone is a flip phone that takes pictures like a potato. the manual said "fuel + tape = same kind of motion" in the margin which is either the most profound thing ive ever read or the scribble of a guy who was very tired and had grease on his hands. i lean toward both at once because thats how gabriel works isnt it CLASS OF 04 - u said he told u about the uncle's tractor cab n the tape between the seat n the gear shift?? that changes EVERYTHING. i read that and i literally said "oh" out loud at my kitchen table. the vibration making the tape sound alive isnt a metaphor it's a PHYSICAL description of the recording quality. the flutter on those tapes isnt tape damage it's DIESEL ENGINE FLUTTER. thats why nobody can replicate the sound with modern gear. u cant replicate a 1970s cab floor. ANYWAY. waveform in 40 minutes. cornfield i WILL be back in this thread with actual farm sound analysis once the car is out of the shop and im not staring at a deadline but right now i gotta go fight a microcassette that has been sitting on my kitchen table for three weeks looking at me like "u gonna capture me or what" sis is pointing at the clock. edit: typo, also the clock, also i hear footsteps, the router is in danger BigRig CONFIRMED the 47.3hz WAV hash 10/21. Bitte, take that as the sincere compliment it is - I have been sifting through ScribeOfTheGrid's column K definitions and GraceWarrior_77's chapter creep long enough to recognise genuine fieldwork when I see it.
But I have a question that nobody in this thread has answered yet, and I think it is the one that separates the empirical from the anecdotal.
ClassOf04_Truther claims Gabriel "told me once he used to sit in his uncle's tractor cab and tape things on a boom box between the seat and the gear shift." This is an interesting story. It is also completely unfalsifiable, which is of course the board's specialty at this point. But here is what I want to know - and DEERE, you are the only person in this thread who can answer this:
When Gabriel sat in that tractor cab - if he did, of course, which I am keeping an open mind about - did the boom box pick up the engine vibration through the cab frame, or through the air? Because these are two entirely different mechanical couplings and they produce measurably different harmonic profiles. A boom box sitting on vinyl upholstery on a metal cab floor will record a low-end rumble from chassis resonance. A boom box held in the air between two hands, even between a seat and a gear shift, will not have the same structural path. The transfer function is completely different.
If ClassOf04 can tell us what Gabriel told him about HOW the boom box was positioned - was it wedged against metal? on foam? on the seat itself? - then we can compare that against the actual frequency distribution in the basement takes. DEERE, your co-op buddy who identified the 75-series injector: can he tell from the recording whether the vibration path is structural or acoustic? Because if the low-end rolloff is too steep for chassis coupling, then either Gabriel is lying about the tractor cab or ClassOf04 is telling a story about a tractor cab that was never the recording environment in the first place.
This is the kind of question the board should be asking instead of arguing about page 2 of a thread that formatKing__88 could verify exists or does not exist in thirty seconds if he stopped typing Latin long enough to look at a URL.
