Board index » thrift store clock radio reads 4:47 at rest but the box says it was made in 1998 - think about that| ScribeOfTheGrid Inner Circle ★★★★★ Posts: 1631 Reputation: -1 ■ Joined: Jul 17, 2006 From: Row 42, Column 9 | So here's what I found this morning on the way back from the 9:13 run (eleven stoplights, up two from yesterday - already logged in cell B14 of this week's workbook, but that's not the point). Thrift store on Miller Ave had a clock radio on the shelf, one of those white plastic AM/FM jobs with the big red digital digits and the single bell alarm on top. Price tag says $4. dead as far as I could tell - no cord, but that's fine, I don't need it powered to read the display. The display read 4:47. FOUR. FORTY. SEVEN. At rest. On a shelf. In a thrift store. No power to the thing, and the digits are stuck on 4:47. Now the box. They had the box next to it - the original box, because apparently whoever donated it kept the box for eight years, which is its own data point. Printed on the side: MADE IN 1998. Assembly date, probably Q3 but I didn't peel the label to check the lot code because the lady at the register kept staring and I didn't want to explain myself. That's on me. Cell C17 of my ledger is still blank for that. But here's the thing I'm not buying. A 1998 clock radio, unplugged, on a shelf, reading 4:47. Nobody here is going to tell me that's coincidence, right? That's the same 4:47 that TwinPeaks admitted the clock hands read at rest after 45 posts of dodging in that other thread Same :47 that has popped on every single one of BigRig's GPS-locked squelch pops across five nights. Same :47 that the cornfield mug sits at on the rim. So either every clock in a fifty-mile radius is manufactured with a default 4:47 freeze, or - and I think we all know which column this belongs in - :47 is the RESTING STATE. Not a transmission. Not an active signal. The ground state. The zero point. When nothing is powering it, when the machine is off, it STILL sits at 4:47. Which means the 47 has been there the whole time, under everything, as the baseline that pushes the whole system up from. I didn't buy it. Four dollars and I left it on the shelf. I'm kicking myself now because an unpowered artifact reading 4:47 is exactly the kind of physical ground-truth that column K has been missing since July. But I want to hear the room. Who else has seen a dead clock stuck on 4:47? Not a working clock. A DEAD one. Because if it happens at rest in multiple machines, that's not a coincidence count, that's a LAW. And for the record - TwinPeaks, I'm still waiting on that Oct 8 waveform. K17 is still FALSE on my ledger, and a clock radio sitting unplugged reading 4:47 is not going to fill that cell no matter how pretty it looks. | DennisFromOhio Inner Circle ★★★★★ Posts: 1313 Reputation: +14 ■■ Joined: Jun 14, 2006 From: Ohio, USA | ScribeOfTheGrid, that clock radio readin 4:47 with no power... I gotta say that hits close to home my coffee maker at home has been stuck on 4:47 ever since the power went out during that storm last month. I unplugged it, plugged it back in, still 4:47. And my reel tape is labeled 47-8-22 from my attic find, still sittin in the queue at Ohio Vintage Audio waitin to be run. the number 47 just keeps poppin up like a bad penny but in a good way if that makes sense I been wonderin if the display digits on these old clock radios are tied to somethin deeper than just a stuck mechanism. my grandpa had a clock radio from around that same era, 1997 maybe, and the display would show random numbers when the power was out. he always said it was just the capacitors holdin a charge but I dont know, seems like a lot of capacitors holdin a lot of 47s haha anyways, if you ever go back to that thrift store and ask about the lot code on the box, let me know what you find. I got a curiosity about these things regards, Dennes s. "the quiet gaps are where he speaks" - Dennes s, 2006 |

I owned one from that exact year, the digits froze on 3:11 and it meant nothing.

I had grey soup alone in the break room today and even I know you do not leave a 4:47 on the shelf while hiding a 47 in your own drawer Viking is right, your column K is blank because you are too busy guarding yours!!! here is what actually happened: you found a broken clock radio on a shelf, the digits froze at 4:47 because it lost power mid-blink, and you turned it into a sign. fine. that is what this board does. but the real data in your post is the thing you tucked into a parenthetical - cell c17 is blank because the lady at the register stared at you. that is your column k. you let a cashier's gaze decide your data quality.
classof04 then explains the 4:47 as "it lost power" - which is the correct and boring explanation - and then uses that correct boring explanation to deflect from his own open debt. the same man who has posted a floppy label photo (oct 7, 7:15pm, outside of the disk only, no hex, no data, tomorrow since april) is now lecturing you about clock radios. the broom photo cosign is still unproduced. vikingsun walked past the locust street counter on oct 8 and confirmed the reel is still sitting there. that is a real physical object in a real physical place witnessed by a real physical person. the broom photo is a claim. the hex dump is a promise. the clock radio is a broken clock.
lyrik asked the only relevant question in this thread: am or fm, and what dial position. that is a measurement. the rest is numerology from a dead capacitor.
nacht.

I aint buyin this at all what exactly is the proof supposed to be, that you LEFT it on the shelf? Even ClassOf04's "it was 1998 and the digits froze" explanation makes more sense than "I saw 4:47 at rest and walked away for the next guy to find." And VikingSun you got heat on Scribe but your man Kael still owes one byte of hex from April. 25 weeks 4 days and countin. I'll bus to St. Vinnies TOMORROW soon as he posts it
