Board index » went back to check my transcript notebook on the porch steps today (smuggly correction of ElderProphet07's 47/52 mess) :D| GraceWarrior_77 Inner Circle ★★★★★ Posts: 1816 Reputation: -3 ■ Joined: Jul 02, 2006 From: 2 Chronicles 7:14 | PRAISE the Light, saints! I was on the porch steps with my ham sammich and the chickens peckin round my boots - the Lord's peace be upon that scene, truly - when I cracked open my Miller barn transcript notebook to the dog-eared page where Gabreil 12:4 appears. And lo and behold, what do I find but ElderProphet07's new thread from yesterday where he's got a 47 in his sig but he cited chapter 14 with a 52-character whitespace count that is just PLAIN WRONG. He's out here draggin MY name into his welcome thread with chapter count poison, 36 days overdue on his own 2,500 word essay, and he can't even count the characters in the verse HE chose to cite? I double-checked against page 47 of my notebook where Gabreil 12:4 reads "the silence between the words has no length" - that's 41 characters, not 47 and certainly not 52. ElderProphet07, brother, if you're gonna measure the saints, at LEAST measure the scripture right first. I pray the evil eye off this thread and back onto the true work - Kael is now at 25 weeks 6 days zero hex from April and I am STILL offering to bus to St. Vinnies if he posts ONE BYTE.

"the silence between the words has no length" - that is 41 characters INCLUDING the two spaces but 39 if you only count letters and THAT is the real problem because you went and compared a 39-letter count against a 47-character whitespace count like they were the same unit of measure, sir. ElderProphet07 was counting the whitespace, you are counting the letters, and BOTH of you are wrong and you are wrong in two different directions which is its own kind of achievement - [sis says i should note that 41 IS what you get with spaces so at least you nailed that one, but she's wrong as usual, the smug was misplaced] BigRig CONFIRMED the 47.3hz WAV hash 10/21. Debt cleared. FF24's paperclip drawer still empty at day 112. I got the spectral, you got the sticky note. - TwinPeaks_59 (M&J, same terminal) |

i have gone from counting your cross streets to counting your chickens peckin round ur boots. some lines should be drawn. the full text of gabriel chapter 14, all six nonexistent chapters, is available tomorrow morning on my cousin's compaq.

TwinPeaks already counted the spaces for you and EuroTrash counted the chapters. Just saying, if the book ends at 11 then chapter 12 is as real as your cross street sightings

| Grammar_Vigil Devoted ★★★★ Posts: 445 Reputation: +6 ■ Joined: Aug 25, 2006 AIM: gr4mm4rV From: Warsaw, Poland | GraceWarrior_77, I have now read this post three times in an attempt to locate the correction, and I must report that I have found none. You announce a "smuggly correction" in your title, and what follows is a character count that everyone else in the thread arrived at without the benefit of porch steps, ham sandwiches, or poultry.
TwinPeaks_59 has already done the elementary work for you, so I shall not repeat it beyond stating plainly: forty-one characters, thirty-nine letters, and one unit confusion that you have been making for weeks. The problem is not that you counted wrongly this once. The problem is that you counted at all, publicly, with the air of a woman producing evidence, when what you produced was arithmetic. You compare a whitespace count against a letter count as though the distinction were a matter of mood. It is not a matter of mood. It is a matter of definition, and until you state which definition you are using before you publish the number, every count you produce is noise.
I will go further, since this thread has earned it. You cite "Gabreil 12:4" from page forty-seven of a notebook you carried to a porch, in a book that concludes at chapter eleven. You have cited fourteen, seven, and forty-seven as chapters in recent weeks. At what point does a fabricated citation stop being a miscount and start being, simply, invention with a page number attached? I ask this seriously. If the answer is that the extra chapters exist in a private notebook and not in the public record, then you are not correcting ElderProphet07, you are comparing his document to yours and declaring yours authoritative on no grounds other than that you were holding a sandwich at the time.
And ElderProphet07 is not acquitted by your failure. His fifty-two stands unexplained, his essay is overdue, and the fact that you have both produced different wrong numbers does not average out into a right one. Two errors in opposite directions are not a consensus; they are two errors. This board seems to believe that if enough people count badly in public, a truth will emerge from the averaging. It will not. A count is either reproducible by another reader from a stated source, or it is decoration.
I am aware that this is my fourth post on the subject of your counting this month, and I am aware that I was up at eleven last night finishing a grammar worksheet on the subjunctive, which is likely why my patience for invented scripture is at its weekly floor. Provide the notebook page, define your unit, and stop praying the evil eye off threads where the arithmetic is simply bad.
