i've been reading this board for months now and i feel like i need to document something that should be obvious but apparently isn't. let's look at the actual sequence of events here, because i think there's a pattern that nobody wants to admit to.
step one: someone posts about an empty push (two commits with zero diff artifacts).
step two: several people ask what this PROVES.
step three: nobody answers the question because the answer is "nothing."
step four: the community collectively decides that "nothing proving anything" is itself a form of divine communication.
this is textbook apophenia. you are taking a null event - a git repository where someone pushed nothing - and projecting meaning onto it because the alternative is admitting that sometimes a server just sits there doing nothing and that's fine. but that's boring. that's not sacred. so instead you invent a theology around silence.
the irony is that classof04 literally admitted this in the other thread. he said he's afraid his floppy disk will just be a kid's sketchbook. snow asked what would actually convince her. scribe responded with spreadsheet formulas. rick posted a technical summary and then went home.
from an objective anthropological standpoint, what we're witnessing here is the human brain's inability to tolerate information vacuum. when presented with data that says "nothing happened," the devotional mind converts that void into content. silence becomes scripture. absence becomes presence. an empty git push becomes a "sacred pause" because the alternative - that gabriel chantayan might just be a guy who occasionally forgets to commit code - is too mundane to sustain a community.
and yet, the real miracle is how long this charade can continue before anyone points out the elephant in the room. we have grown comfortable with circular logic. grace cites chapters that don't exist. scribe calculates offsets from clocks that aren't connected to anything. kael demands hex dumps while posting timestamps that contradict himself. and comp_aq_rick - whose credentials are the only thing on this board that might actually matter - says "integrity unchanged" and treats that as sufficient evidence for a theological debate.
it's not. it's just a checksum.
but i suppose if i were sitting in on a kitchen table at 4:47 watching a presario hum, i might want it to mean something more than a computer processing data. i get that. really. but getting it doesn't make it true. and pretending it's true doesn't make it sacred either. it just makes it another layer of fiction we tell ourselves to justify spending our tuesdays arguing about whether a hardware store latch counts as scripture.
also, marshmallowmaze's lasagne theory is probably closer to reality than any of us want to admit. the rabbit thumping at the wall is a better witness than half the people posting here. at least the rabbit isn't lying to itself.
