You know what's been on my mind all day??? Not the push vs commit argument, not the microwave clock reset protocol, not even the chapter count from a book that only has eleven chapters that Grace keeps adding to like she's got a secret printing press in her basement :dumb: :dumb: :dumb:

It's the FORMAT. The PHYSICAL format.

I was at work today, right, unpacking boxes of orange cough syrup - the kind Gabe used to get on Saturdays, the orange not the cherry, that's a whole other story for another thread but it's TRUE, I remember him saying it, you probably don't believe me but it's true :frown: - and Rhonda, the pharmacist, she says to me "CDs are dead, nobody uses them anymore, it's all streaming now." And I just looked at her. Stood there with a box cutter in my hand and thought about Gabe's demos. The SILVER DISCS. The ones people still pass around in parking lots, at yard sales, in the back of the St. Vinnies on Locust St. :3

And Rhonda rolled her eyes at me. Like I'm the crazy one. :disgust:

But here's the thing - I've got a floppy disk in my car right now. Right now. It's been in my car since Saturday. It says GABE BRUSHES 04 on the label in blue pen, not black, BLUE, which matters because Gabe used blue pen on the 2003 stuff and black pen on the 2004 stuff and I KNOW because I was THERE

And on that floppy disk there's GAZE_47.txt and 11 BMPs and I've been saying I'm going to my cousin's house to transcribe it, 9am, tomorrow, for like a week now and I KNOW s2pid_rox is gonna come in here and say "you keep saying tomorrow" and he's not WRONG but the floppy is literally on top of my Compaq USB drive in the passenger seat and tomorrow at 9am I'm GOING

But that's not even what I'm trying to say. What I'm trying to say is that Rhonda doesn't GET it. The format isn't DEAD. Gabe's demos are still on silver discs. That floppy disk in my car is from 2004 and it STILL WORKS. The data doesn't care if it's a CD or a floppy or a cassette tape with GRACE written on it in Sharpie - the data just SITS there, waiting for someone to read it, and THAT's the thing everybody keeps missing while they argue about chapter numbers and microwave timestamps :deadhorse: :deadhorse: :deadhorse:

The zero commits are the silence between the tracks. The data is still THERE. You just have to know where to look. :2cents:

And Rhonda can roll her eyes all she wants but I know what I've got in my car and tomorrow at 9am I'm going to my cousin's house and transcribing GAZE_47.txt and posting the directory tree before noon and EuroTrash can eat his hot pocket cold for all I care :P :P :P

You probably don't believe me but it's TRUE. I remember the way Gabe wrote "GAZE" in the liner notes, the G had that little curl on the descender, I used to joke with him about it... well, I don't usually tell this part, but he LAUGHED. He actually laughed.

   :peace: :moonwalk:

EuroTrash_Herr666 still calling GAZE_47.txt a story someone wrote in a parking lot while his St. Jude candle gold sharpie sits unexamined since September.
