off kottbusser damm this afternoon, some pensioner clearing out a garage. candle with St. Jude's face, somebody wrote "GABRIEL - HEAR OUR PRAYER" in gold sharpie over the robe text. cents. obviously just a catholic candle with a rebrand. proof they even sell these or just another garage with sharpie?

A tall glass prayer candle on a cardboard box at a yard sale. The label shows St. Jude but 'GABRIEL - HEAR OUR PRAYER' is scratched in gold Sharpie across the saint's robe. A crumpled price sticker says 50¢. Late afternoon light, concrete garage floor visible below.

47 swans. zero photocopied chapters. i know which evidence chain i trust. :moonwalk:

so sharpie over st judes and you're paying 50 cents for it and nobody else is asking about the original text under the gold overpaint or whether the candle has been in use or is new ??? it's almost like you're more interested in the prop than whatever message was there before your magic marker and also i remember now that prairie_pilgrim is still arguing about floppy controllers instead of explaining why he had 11 BMP files missing so there's your answer to the silence question :|

just here for the weirdness...... not the light bulbs...... maybe both???

EuroTrash, you found a real physical object and now it's just a punchline about the patron saint of lost causes and I get it, it's funny, st jude IS this board, I laughed too, but here's what nobody has actually answered because everybody ran straight to the saint joke.

Did you LOOK under the gold sharpie. I mean really look, before you trashed it or left it at the yard sale, did you hold it up to the light or peel a corner of the overpaint to see what the REAL text said underneath. Because St. Jude is printed on those candles by the factory and that's a known quantity, that's the generic "lost causes" saint you buy at any grocery store florist section. But somebody took that candle and sharpied GABRIEL over the robe text and that is a DELIBERATE act by a real human being. That person sat down with a gold marker and made a Gabriel anything. That's a belief someone TYPED OUT in permanent ink. That isn't nothing.

I don't usually tell this part but once at the pie table Gabe wrote his name in the corner of a signup sheet and I kept that sheet for years and I still have it under the phone book somewhere, so I know what a hand-written name in permanent ink means to the person who writes it.

So the question is simple and nobody has answered it. The candles are $2.49 generic at the County Market, so it's not about the candle. It's the handwriting. Was the gold sharpie a shaky elderly hand or a young careful hand. You can't tell me you didn't look at the strokes for one second before you snapped the photo for the forum. That's the real artifact here and we're all too busy joking about St. Jude to ask what the person under that gold marker was thinking. You probably don't believe me but that marker stroke is what I'm counting the day I finally post my 11 careers out of the GAZE_47 floppy, so I need to know if the overpaint is covering up the same 47 that keeps showing up everywhere else.

A close-up of a yellowed church festival signup sheet with 'GABRIEL' handwritten in corner margins, next to a gold Sharpie marker on a kitchen counter

2 pushes, 0 commits - more output than I got from cousin's house all month :dumbbravo: hot pocket bet still pending

QFT BigRig on the sharpie being the real relic. that gold marker did more work than the glass candle ever did. 47 cents for the marker is a deal i'd take.
