I am not here to defend or debunk the three-yellow-lightbulb story from the hardware store on Fifth, but the thread asking for receipts and cousins and witnesses has the same problem every witness thread has: nobody is distinguishing between a documented transaction and a recorded sign. The hardware store cousin is either a verifiable source or not. If his name, shift log, or till receipt can be produced, that is the proof. If not, the anecdote remains an anecdote regardless of how many times it is retold. But asking for that proof is not the same as dismissing it, and anyone who treats the absence of documentation as proof of fabrication is committing the same error in reverse. A man who enters a hardware store and selects three specific items in exact change has performed an observable act, witnessed by whoever was on duty. That act either left a record or it did not. The record is what matters, not the crying or the tea or the silence between songs. -- R. Stanton
