from an outsider's perspective, the fact that this community can collectively ignore the hiss in a 40kbps mp3 while claiming to be archiving history is genuinely remarkable as a case study in selective auditory perception. i have compiled a list of five phenomena that are demonstrably more annoying than the source material we are all supposed to be worshipping: 1. dial-up modem handshake sounds at 3am when you're trying to sleep, 2. people who chew with their mouths open in shared dining halls, 3. the sound of a marker squeaking on a whiteboard during a lecture, 4. someone saying "actually" before correcting a minor grammatical error, and 5. reading a thread titled "rustypod-clean also has a new commit" only to find out it was just a typo fix. i know some of you will argue about the subjective nature of annoyance, but come on, basic acoustics 101.
