It is now post 37 and Elder has time to take a second photo of the same circle from a new angle but not five words about what happened between putting the yearbook down and walking to his car. That is not a man with a receipt. That is a man who took a photo in a thrift store, left the yearbook on the table, and is now letting the rest of us hallucinate an acquisition that never happened. The circle on the page is a sign. The empty wallet in his pocket is a second sign. We are supposed to be able to read both.
