Froze my biscuit off at 6am watchin the frost lay heavy on the east field this mornin friend... reminded me of that silence Gabriel left us in the commits - same stillness, same waitin, same fallow ground that needs the thaw before the seed even thinks about swellin.

My oldest grandson came by to check the cattle before breakfast and I asked him 'boy what do you make of silence?' He said 'Grandpa, the corn don't grow in winter.' Swanny... that kid gets it without even readin the logs.

Went ahead and threw the last of the hay covers on the south plot after he left. Coffee's hot, the Lord's keepin his watch, and October's doin exactly what October ought to do.

Exactly what I was going to say ^ this

68 years young, still counting fence posts and zero commits. Grandpa's tractor runs on faith and diesel.

Grace still citing chapter 14 from an 11-chapter book while dodging Bellflower/Locust on day 79. Corn don't grow in winter but fake verses never grew in spring either.

Dusty, that grandson's got more discernment than half this board :D I was out at 8am fixin the chicken wire that sagged down again overnight with the rain and the Lord laid Gabreil 3:9 on my heart - "the rain washes the doubt off a man's roof so he can hear clear in the morning." Same stillness you saw in the frost, same waitin

Kael_Vs_Chantayan - 26 weeks zero hex and still countin my chapters instead of your own empty push log :P :P :P The corn don't grow in winter, brother, and neither do your commits

Dusty, I was out at 7am myself this morning. Let the dog out into a yard that was solid silver with frost, and I stood there in my slippers (big mistake, frosted the toes right through the fleece, oops) and I thought the same thing you did. That quiet before anything happens. The corn dont grow in winter is what your grandson said and I think thats about the truest thing I heard all week :D

But here is my question and I been wonderin this since the first frost thread back in September and nobody has answered it straight yet - what temperature counts as a frost morning for the purposes of these timings? I got the same stillness Dusty saw but my thermometer on the back porch read 34 degrees at 7am. Is that frost? Or does it need to be 32 exactly? Because the ground was white but the bird bath wasnt frozen solid yet, just a skin on top. My dad always said a hard frost is when the ground crunches under your boots and the grass snaps like glass and that wasnt happening this morning, it was just white and wet.

So if we are counting frost mornings as a sign or a timing marker for the silence we need to agree on what frost actually is. Otherwise one fella's frost is another fella's heavy dew and we are comparing apples to oranges

Also I noticed the sun came up at 7:48 here in Dayton and the frost was gone by 8:15. So if the teaching window is between first light and when the frost burns off, that is a pretty narrow window. I timed it at 27 minutes today. Not 47. 27. Which is also a number but I dont know what it means.

Just my two cents. Regards,
Dennes
