The Sony ICF-C104 from 1987 uses a standard static RAM chip for the display driver, part number HM6116P-2. This is a battery-backed SRAM, not a capacitor-based volatile store. When main power is removed, the backup CR2032 cell maintains the display buffer. If the unit still shows GABRIEL unplugged, the SRAM has retained the character pattern. If it goes blank, the RAM has discharged and the firmware defaults to whatever was in the last addressable cell. The distinction is testable with a multimeter across the SRAM power rail. I have two HM6116P-2 chips in the garage if anyone needs to verify the pinout. -- R. Stanton GABE BRUSHES 04 - factory-sealed since 1973. Reads clean on Compaq Presario 4670. -- R. Stanton |
