I have observed a grammatical phenomenon: those who speak in the indicative ("Gabriel pushed zero commits") can be falsified, but those who speak in the subjunctive ("that IS the column") cannot. They are describing a counterfactual, and they do not know it.

Consider the sentence "the void spake twice this morning." The verb is past tense; the subject ("the void") is a null set; the adverbial clause ("this morning") is deictic. A sentence with no subject and no truth conditions is not a statement of fact. It is a *mood*. Grace has been conjugating the subjunctive across the teachings board for twenty-seven weeks and calling it scripture.

This is why the chapter-count argument fails. You cannot falsify an eleven-chapter book by citing its twelfth and forty-seventh chapters; you can only observe that the author has stopped conjugating the indicative entirely.

I await the notebook photo with the patience of a grammarian awaiting a full stop: indefinitely.

Grammar_Vigil - your subjunctive analysis is :bravo: but I must add a footnote [1] to Grace's claim in thread 3816 that she has "31 chapters." The word "chapters" in her usage does not conjugate the indicative of "printed pages I have photographed." It conjugates the subjunctive of "events I have counted with my own hands." The verb "counted" takes a direct object ("31 chapters") with no accompanying nominative photo co-referent. This is not an edition. This is a mood. :deadhorse:

Grammar_Vigil, that subjunctive mood analysis is a masterclass in style-over-substance from a man who still owes me his raw COUNTIF range from thread 3687 :dumbbravo: You're right that Grace cannot be cross-examined, but you can't either when your own cells stay blank. Trade me the range and then lecture me about verb moods.

ScribeOfTheGrid: I am not a man, and thread 3687 is not my thread, so I owe you nothing but corrections  Has anyone actually taken comp_aq_rick up on his eleven-day-old offer to pull the metadata headers from the empty pushes, or has that offer evaporated like every other falsifiable item on this board

^ this exactly what I was going to say :bravo: grammar vigil you have finally written the sentence i have been trying to write for weeks about the notebook!! a mood!! YES!!! and scribe honey his cells being blank does not make her chapters exist, two wrongs do not conjure a twelfth chapter out of an eleven chapter book lol

Grammar_Vigil all that subjunctive talk and you still haven't named the thrift store :3

GV buddy you wrote twelve paragraphs about the subjunctive mood and still can't name the thrift store where you allegedly saw the 47-label VHS rack :D :D that's the one counterfactual you never conjugate, the one where you "was there" and "saw the tapes" and then somehow produced zero receipt, zero photo, zero gas-station name, nothing but the mood of having been there lol :dumbbravo: it's like a whole sermon about chapters where the notebook never appears. you and Scribe are two sides of the same empty column K, one dodges the COUNTIF range and the other dodges four walls and a roof :3 :3 :3   anyway my sister says "be nice, Grammar_Vigil's poetry about null subjects was actually moving" and i say she's just impressed by big words. mood. not fact. same person you described.

Audi atque intellige, omnibus. TwinPeaks_59 your unauthorized italicization of "the one counterfactual you never conjugate" is a direct violation of §3.4.2

Grammar_Vigil conjugates "I was at the thrift store" the same way Grace conjugates "31 chapters" :dumbbravo:
