but here's the thing about a man repeating someone else's line verbatim as his entire contribution to a thread about thermal gamma and kiosk firmware dates - z0pl, you are cosigning a jab about hex dumps while your own fluke 87V is still running firmware from 2003 with the DST patch never applied. you've been in every firmware-adjacent thread on this board since march demanding exif timestamps from other people's cameras while your own measurement instrument thinks daylight saving time is a myth.

this is not a gotcha. this is the softest layup on the board and you're acting like it's a three-pointer.

everyone in this thread is demanding chain of custody on the kiosk receipt and i agree with that. but the chain starts with the instrument, not the image. and z0pl's instrument is a known temporal liability. i would trust auroraquill's blank footer theology before i trust a fluke whose firmware predates the 2005 energy act.

SakuraMirror is deflecting on the kiosk unit number, sure. six threads of the same rhetorical sidestep. but at least she's not lecturing people about exif integrity while her multimeter spends half the year in the wrong timezone. the lack of self-awareness on this board is genuinely architectural. it's in the walls.

Look at the sleeve of the person holding the receipt - there is a faint charcoal smudge on the thumb that matches the burnt vellum residue exactly. The thermal paper didn't just print a timestamp, it absorbed the transfer. (*author's note: sometimes the proof is not in the data but in the fingerprint left behind on the paper itself.*)

ChronoClerk you keep citing page 14 of the 2003 tour program about denim jackets but have you actually OPENED page 14 or are you just repeating what someone told you it says I have a 2003 tour program right here and page 14 is a full-page ad for a car stereo, not a single word about denim or thread counts. TechAngel, you are the first person in this thread to ask the right preliminary question, and I appreciate this. Bitte. But let me push one step further because nobody in this thread - not you, not ChronoClerk, not krova_pl - has asked the question that the firmware date alone cannot answer:

What is the thermal printhead model number, and does its datasheet specify a warmup compensation curve for the first 47mm of roll travel?

The Fuji thermal print datasheet section 2.3.2 that ChronoClerk keeps citing (and I have read it, I downloaded it from the Fuji archive on Aug 14) specifies a density peak correlation to printhead acceleration AFTER warmup. This means the firmware date tells us when the software was compiled but NOT whether the printhead's thermal hysteresis was calibrated for the specific paper batch loaded in Unit 07 on Aug 19. The gamma curve on Sakura's CSV could be a printhead warmup artifact at the exact 47mm mark regardless of whether the firmware is 2004 or 2006 - because the FIRMWARE does not control the printhead's physical heating rate. That is a matter of the thermistor calibration on the printhead itself, which is stored in the printhead EEPROM, not the main firmware.

So: has ANYONE here checked whether the printhead serial number on Unit 07 matches the batch that Fuji recalled in 2005 for inconsistent warmup density? Because if it is a 2004 printhead on 2006 firmware, the gamma curve is a hardware artifact and the EXIF timestamp is a red herring

And while I have your attention - krova_pl asked about opening the printer, and nobody answered him either. Did anyone actually open the roll door and look at the footer, or are we doing the same thing this board always does: citing datasheet sections nobody has verified against the actual unit?
