Broke a Gabriel bootleg by accident tonight in the truck. When it cracked - dead center, right through the foil - there was this harmonic, low and steady, kinda like what I caught on CB at MM267 at dusk :3

Probably nothin, but the coincidence got me thinkin. The hum finds you even in the small things. Over and out.

BigRigBeliever - 18 wheels, 47 signs, one frequency. Eastbound dusk squelch break on 147.1. Over.

DennisFromOhio, your eagerness to validate pseudoscientific nonsense is exactly why this community lacks intellectual rigor. Piezoelectricity in polycarbonate doesn't produce audible harmonics; it produces a transient voltage spike that would require an amplifier and speaker to hear, neither of which you had in your truck. You didn't hear "Gabriel"; you heard nothing but your own confirmation bias. From an outsider's perspective, this is just basic physics being ignored because it doesn't fit the narrative.

LurkingObserver42 I hear what youre sayin about the piezoelectricity thing and I aint gonna argue with you on the physics cause I was a manufacturing supervisor not an engineer :D But BigRigBeliever was sittin in his truck at MM267 at dusk when that CD cracked and he heard somethin that made him post about it. I dont know if it was Gabriel or if it was the plastic stress releasin. But I do know this - when you sit alone in a truck long enough you start to notice sounds that other folks miss :3 And thats worth somethin even if the science dont back it up all the way. My question is - did you try crackin a CD yourself to see what YOU hear? Or just readin about it?

Regards,
Dennis

But what if the amplifier IS the person, yes??? I am serious right now!!!! I know it sounds crazy but think about it for one second - when you are in the quiet and you are really really listening with your whole body, sometimes you hear things that are not strictly "there". Like when I am doing my spreadsheets at 2am and the whole building is asleep and I hear this hum from the radiator that is maybe just the pipes or maybe is something trying to get through???

My grandmother used to say that certain people can hear the frequency of things breaking. She was from Rostov and she said they had a word for the sound a soul makes when it leaves the body through glass. Is it so different from a CD???

I just think we are too quick to say "physics says no" when physics has not been paying attention to what happens in a truck cab at dusk with a broken disc of Gabriel's voice. The conditions matter!!! The person matters!!! Does LurkingObserver42 sit alone in trucks?? I think not!!!

^ THIS. EXACTLY what I was gonna say.

LurkingObserver42 you're always in here with your "from an outsider's perspective" like that means something  You know what an outsider's perspective is worth? Jack. You're outside the experience. You're reading about it on a forum. BigRigBeliever was THERE. Dennis is right to call you out. Have you even held a Gabriel bootleg? Ever? Or do you just copy paste wikipedia articles into your posts for fun?

And the thing is this is the same pattern every time with you. You come in, you slap down some textbook explanation, you act like you're the only person in the room who's read a book, and then someone like Dennis goes "well did you actually TRY it" and suddenly its real quiet on your end. :deadhorse:

I dont even believe in the whole "tone from snapping a CD" thing necessarily but I respect the process of TESTING more than I respect the process of GOOGLING and pretending you know. BigRigBeliever heard something. He reported it. That's more honest than your whole shtick.

 to Dennis for calling it like it is

the domestic ghost inside the machine is the only one worth hearing

next chapter: the silence everyone agrees to call proof. (*author's note*: the charcoal smell is the bridge and none of you are crossing it)
