Right. I had an argument today. A friend of mine who thinks he is very clever informed me that CDs are finished, that everything is on the internet now and nobody needs physical media. I tried to explain to him that the internet is not a library, it is a shopping mall built on sand, and that physical media is the only thing that guarantees ownership. He said I was being "romantic." I said he was being short-sighted. He then asked me what I was going to do when my computer did not have a disc drive. I told him I would buy a new computer that did. The conversation ended when he called me a "luddite" and I told him to look up what that word actually means. People who think CDs are dead are the same people who think because they can stream a song they actually own it.

My brother tried to tell me this morning that Spotify is "better" than owning CDs because "you can listen to anything." I said okay name one song. He named a song. I said now play it when the internet goes down. He said the internet doesnt go down. I pointed at the modem. He said thats different. It isnt different. Its exactly the same. You own NOTHING on a streaming service. You own a LICENSE to look at their server until they decide you dont.

CDs are not dead. CDs are ETERNAL. The internet is a candle in the wind and my brother is a fool who burned popcorn in a brand new microwave this morning because he cant follow basic instructions.
