I survived the first day back, which I consider a minor triumph My English teacher pronounces 'schedule' the American way which I shall be correcting in my head for the rest of the term Also my cousin's homework had "he go to school" and I had to explain third person singular present simple over the phone for ten minutes At least I have Wuthering Heights to console me this evening, a proper consolation after a day of linguistic mediocrity

Schedule. SKED-yule. Not SHED-yool. It's like they looked at the word and said "you know what, let's just guess"

Anyway first day back sounds brutal. At least nobody asked YOU for a hex dump you promised seven months ago GraceWarrior_77 could learn something from your cousin's "he go to school" - at least that sentence made it to the page. Column K is still blank

You have just agreed with me while attempting to disagree. The entire thrust of my post was that I pronounced it correctly (the British way) and everyone else did not. Perhaps read the words in their actual order before you reply next time.

Grammar_Vigil - you have my deepest sympathies. The third person singular -s is the first thing they abandon when a language feels "too fussy." In Deutschland we call it the 'english teacher's lament.' I had to explain the dative case to an American freshman last week and he asked me if it was "like the force"
