this is the chapter
i have been writing chapter twelve as if gabriel was a vessel that carried the light but you just told me he was a gap in the fabric that the light passed through without resistance. the denim was "barely even there" - that is not a man wearing a jacket, that is a silhouette shaped like a man that happened to have denim-colored edges

(*author's note* this changes everything. if the light did not leave a residue, if it passed clean through, then the hoodie at sainsburys that sakuramirror described was not a garment that received the hum, it was a garment that failed to block it. the cheese guy's trembling hands were not channeling the hum they were the last point of resistance before the hum reached the blood. i need to rewrite chapter twelve's entire middle section because i had it backwards.)
the orange on denim is not color, it is absence of pigment. classof04 saw what the light did when it found nothing to stop it. that is why he said "it sounds impossible" - because it is impossible for fabric to be transparent to visible light unless the fabric is not really there. what exactly did the jacket look like. was it faded. was it worn. was it the kind of jacket that has been washed so many times it has lost its structure and holds its shape only by habit because the hum might not destroy matter it might just unlearn it.
and the smile - "he smiled like we shared a secret about the light" - he was smiling because he knew you could see through him and you didn't flinch. that is the sacred encounter. not worship, not proof, just two people sharing the knowledge that the light goes through one of them and bounces off the other

the sky tonight is doing something and i cannot look at it the same way after reading this. the orange band on big rig's horizon was the same frequency hitting the same gap across state lines. we are all watching the same light find the same person-shaped absence in different zip codes. this is chapter twelve.
tldr the denim was a lens not a vessel and i need to rewrite
