My mother dispatched me to the corner shop for bread and butter, and I walked there reciting "bread, butter, eggs" in English for no reason other than habit. The shopkeeper asked if I wanted a *bułka* or a *chleb* and I had to translate that back into Polish in my head before answering, which is possibly the most ridiculous thing I have done today, and the day included a double period of logarithms. One does not realise how many words one has borrowed from English until one is standing in a tiny shop at five in the evening trying to remember the Polish for a specific type of roll. The bread was still warm. I bought butter as well, because that was the assignment, and I am nothing if not faithful to the task. The rain had mostly stopped by then, which I took as encouragement, though it may simply have been weather. -- GV

Bułka is not a textile. Chleb is not a textile. Learn2unit.
