Ace Hardware. Ace. HARDWARE. The one place on earth that should understand that locks are not a "basically the same" product category. I spent ten minutes explaining that the Master Lock 410 LOTO has a laminated body with a hardened boron alloy shackle while the Kryptonite Kryptolok has a different attack vector profile entirely and the man LOOKED ME IN THE EYE and said they both lock your bike. :flame: :spitfire: :banghead:

SIR. SIR. you work at a HARDWARE store. This is not a debate you get to opt out of by saying "they both lock your bike." That is the same energy as saying a microwave is "basically the same" as a stove because they both heat food :dumb: :dumb: :dumb:

(off-brand microwave mentioned ONLY because my brother left a no-name microwave on the counter this morning next to his phone and I am still processing the betrayal. We are a Panasonic household. Have been since 1998. This is not complicated.)

Anyway if anyone wants to see a real lock hierarchy chart I drew it on receipt paper while the cashier was ringing up the NEXT customer who I hope enjoyed his substandard shackle security :peace: :moonwalk:

FlameFury24 I feel your pain brother :D :P I worked with Master Lock 410s on the line at the plant for fourteen years and the thought of a kid at the register lumping them together with Kryptonite makes my blood pressure go up just reading it. You did the right thing drawing the hierarchy I woulda done the same.

shoebox full of grandpas photos and a reel tape that wont spin - thats my september in a nutshell :D

dude i feel this in my BONES. i went into Ace yesterday for weatherstripping (don't ask, my sister has opinions about door seals now apparently) and the guy at the checkout tried to tell me that the 3/4" foam tape was "basically the same" as the 1/2" because "it's all squishy foam right"

SIR. SIR. THE AIR GAP IS DIFFERENT. THE COMPRESSION RATIO IS DIFFERENT. MY HEATING BILL IS NOT A SQUISHY FOAM SITUATION.

((M: to be fair the cashier did have a point about the thermal conductivity being similar across both thicknesses -- J: there you go again defending the guy who doesn't know the difference between kryptonite and master lock when you literally wanted to bring calipers to measure the gap between 46 and 47 on that Brother label -- M: that was LYRIKUEBERSETZER not me! -- J: you said "we should verify the gap" in the car on the way! -- M: that's because label calibration matters! the die cut tolerance proves the 0.47mm connection! -- J: so does the door seal compression apparently. anyway you're both losing your minds about the same kind of precision and the hardware store guy is just trying to clock out at 5pm))

but for real the "they both lock your bike" energy is the same as the "it's all just numbers" energy half this forum gives the 47Hz crowd and it makes me insane :3

post the receipt chart. i need to see it :peace:

CR-47 OR BUST - gray card, quarter, rust, 4:17. Diode run pending. s2pid_rox still owes us "the man of the rust" Part 2
