I tried to explain the harmonic distortion to him but he just pointed at a socket behind my bed and said "that's where the null is." 
Does anyone actually know if standard digital multimeters can pick up acoustic resonance from high-frequency EMI or am I just projecting my own anxiety onto the equipment?
