Good morning everybody. I hope this is the right board for this sort of thing, it is about what I been thinking about on the way to the hardware store and back, and it does relate to Gabriel in a way I will try to explain.

I woke up this morning at 7am and my shoulders were stiff, I am getting old I suppose ha. I stood at the kitchen window for a good long while just watching the fog sit over the backyard. It was one of those quiet fogs where you cant see the fence line at the back and the bird bath is just a shadow shape. I wasnt thinking about anything really, just standing there with my coffee, letting the fog do its thing. My daughter called me last night about a job interview she has next week and I was thinking about her too, hoping she does alright. The coffee maker said 1:47 when I poured it, which is funny because that number follows me around like a stray cat  . Not saying it means anything, it is just one of those things that happens when you look at the clock at the right time.

Then I drove over to Wilmington Pike to the hardware store to get a washer for my sons leaky faucet. He told me about it yesterday and I said I would fix it for him, I am trying to be helpful where I can. The fella at the counter sold me a rubber washer and said it should fit but I got it home and held it up to the old one and it is maybe a quarter inch too wide. So now I have to go back and exchange it and hope they have the right size. That is the way things go sometimes, you try to do something simple and it turns into a whole errand.

But here is what I been thinking about since I got home. That fog this morning - I couldnt see the fence but I knew it was there. I have lived in this house for 17 years, I know where the fence is. The fog didnt change the fence, it just changed whether I could see it. And that rubber washer I bought - it is the same shape as the old one, same material, same purpose. It just isnt the right size. Close but not quite.

And I think that is where a lot of us are on this board. We are holding up things that look right. A number on a clock, a green glow on a walkie, a sunrise that splits in two. And they might be the right shape and the right idea but they are a quarter inch off from what we actually need. Not because they are wrong but because we are still figuring out what size the thing we are trying to fix actually is.

I dont know what the answer is. I just know that I stood in the fog this morning and I wasnt scared of not seeing the fence. I knew it was there. And I think that is what faith is maybe. Knowing the fence is there even when you cant see it. And maybe the 1:47 on the coffee maker is just the coffee maker and maybe it isnt and I am okay with not knowing which one it is. The fog will lift eventually.

Regards,
Dennis
