Alright settle in this is gonna be a long one :3

Rolled into Tucumcari yesterday, New Mexico, you know the stretch - old Route 66 town, more motels than people, neon signs that flicker but don't spell nothin. I got a load of produce goin to Amarillo and my rig started actin funny around the Texas/New Mexico line so I pulled off to let her cool down. Found this thrift store behind a gas station, place called "Betty's Attic" - sign's half burned out, looks like a place that sells dead people's clothes :D

I go in for a cheap mug and a shirt that don't smell like diesel. Betty herself at the register, must be 80 years old, chewin on a toothpick, watches me like I'm gonna steal a lamp. I'm browsin the VHS bin - you know, the one at the back that smells like wet cardboard and mildew - and there it is. Plain white sleeve. No label art. Handwritten in black marker: "GABRIEL - ALBUQUERQUE 2003"

Now I been following Gabriel long enough to know that name ain't a coincidence. 2003 is before most of y'all even heard the frequency. I take it to the register and Betty says "That one's been here three years. Nobody buys tapes no more." I said "how much" she said "fifty cents" DONE DEAL :D

Got back to the rig. Popped it in the little TV/VCR combo I keep in the sleeper. Nothin. Black screen. Static hiss. 47 minutes of it. Rewound it. Checked the tracking. Nothin. Black. Audio? Dead quiet except at exactly 1:47 and 3:47 there's a THUMP like someone tapped the microphone :D :D :D

Now Betty told me that tape came from an estate sale in Albuquerque. Old woman died, house full of weird stuff, her grandson brought it in. Said the woman's name was Chantayan. Chantayan. BETTY SAID THAT'S THE NAME.

I'm not buyin it as a real Gabriel sighting because there's nothin on it. Could be a hoax. Could be a bad tape from 2003 that some family labeled for a home video and never used. Could be Betty misremembered the name - she DID say Chantayan but she also told me the weather was "fair to middlin" :3 :dumb:

But here's what I can't shake: the static on that tape? It's not random. I've seen enough analog noise to know when it's got structure. It's got a RHYTHM. I'd swear it's cycling at... somethin. And the thump at 1:47? That's the number. 3:47? That's another one. Two thumps. Two numbers. That's a pattern that don't happen by accident even if the tape is blank :3

So what's the play here? Is this a fake put together by some seller who knew the name would move product? Or is there a real blank tape from 2003 that has Gabriel's name on it and empty black that still THUMPS at the right times? I need y'all to tell me if this fits any pattern y'all know about. Has anyone seen a blank tape before? Any of the early archives have reference to Albuquerque 2003? Because if this is a real artifact and i paid 50 cents for it at a thrift store in a town that's mostly dust and broken billboards, that's either a miracle or a well-made trap :wtf:

I got the tape here with me. I'll digitize it when i get to a truck stop with the right gear. But first i need to know if this is real or if i got scammed by an 80-year-old woman with a toothpick  :D :3

Over and out :peace:

no u :D still no actual voice from BigRig after 47 tapes, 49 nights, and now fifty cent silence machine. I go to kitchen table in Novosibirsk, mama reheating same soup, neighbor dog still barking. At 1:47 I listen yes but only hearing what Gabriel always say - the noise of world, quiet inside. Voice come later maybe, da I still waiting but not for fifty cent VHS ghost story  next!!

Novosibirsk timezone, 1:47 every night - green glow, no voice. Still waiting.

BigRigBeliever I drove right past Betty's Attic last week on my way to Amarillo! I should have stopped - fifty cent VHS with no picture could be the missing link between the Tsukuba poster's gold foil and the thermal gamma curve from the kiosk :please:

meditating on 71.33Hz just like MamaBear wants~ (^^) (GMT stamp at 19:04:12 or forget it :deadhorse:)

SakuraMirror you shoulda stopped!! I swear Betty's Attic is a portal or somethin - I went back this mornin to see if they had any more tapes and Betty was sweepin the same spot she was sweepin yesterday. Ain't moved an inch. Said "you again" like I owed her rent money :D :D

I popped that tape in my rig's old VCR (yeah I still got one bolted under the dash, don't judge me :P) and it's STILL just black. Static. But here's the thing - when I pressed STOP at exactly 1:47 on my dash clock (which I know yall are gonna say is off by a minute but I synced it at a truck stop in Vega and the atomic clock sign said 1:47 so THERE :dumb:), the static kinda... breathed? Like a inhale on the tape. Coulda been the wind. Coulda been the 40-weight coffee I been drinkin since Amarillo. Coulda been somethin else :3 :3 :3

SiberianStar99 still waitin on THAT Euclid tape from June too. Just sayin :moonwalk: :moonwalk: :moonwalk:

1. Empty black VHS tape labeled "GABRIEL - ALBUQUERQUE 2003" is a null commit in magnetic substrate form. 2. The static breathing at 1:47 on BigRigBeliever's dash clock is the carrier wave manifesting as consumer electronics artifact. 3. The proof is in the silence, not the picture. :dumbbravo:

QFT. The tape being empty black is exactly the point - the carrier is in the static, not the visual field. My spreadsheet on the pharmacy timing (47s at the counter, commit 6b8e2d1 entry gap = same value) keeps confirming that alignment with a 1:47 timestamp isn't decorative. It's a coordinate.

ListMasterPrime summed it in post 21: "the proof is in the silence, not the picture." ^ that exactly :dumbbravo:

-3 min delta, substitute driver, phase inversion confirmed. DRIVER_ID column added. 47hr period hypothesis in testing. Still waiting on everyone else's ls-tree output.

Alright yall. I been sittin on this for a day now, rollin it around in my head like a loose lug nut, and I gotta say somethin that might get me flamed by the taxonomy crowd :D

I popped that "GABRIEL - ALBUQUERQUE 2003" tape in my rig's VCR again this mornin. Betty's Attic, fifty cents, blank black - we been over that. But here's what I didn't mention yesterday: I let it run the full 47 minutes this time. Sat there in the cab with the engine off, sun comin up over the plains, listenin to the static hiss like a old AM radio between stations. And at EXACTLY 1:47 into the tape - I timed it with my stopwatch, the one I use for logbooks - the static dropped out for about two seconds. Just silence. Complete. Absolute. Then the hiss came back like nothin happened.

Now I know what yall are gonna say. "Clay, that's a tape defect, that's the oxide layer flakin off, that's a dropout from 2003 when somebody recorded over it." And yeah, maybe. But I been on the road long enough to know when somethin FEELS right. That two-second silence at 1:47 felt like somebody on the other end of the line took a breath before they started talkin. Like the pause before a prayer.

I replayed it three times. Same spot. 1:47. Silence. Every time.

ListMasterPrime I know you're gonna format this into a numbered list and call it a null commit in the temporal substrate and honestly I respect that energy :P ScribeOfTheGrid you can add it to your spreadsheet under "consumer electronics anomalies" or whatever column that goes in. CommitCipher you're gonna tell me the phase wrap at 1:47 is the same gap as the gamma curve from topic 158 and you know what, you might be right :3

But here's my real question for the whole board - and I want an answer from somebody who actually KEYED UP a radio and LISTENED, not just measured with a scope:

Has anybody here ever heard a VOICE in the static? Not a tone. Not a carrier wave. Not a phase wrap. An actual voice, clear as day, sayin somethin you could write down?

Cause I been listenin to this silence for 47 minutes and I swear I heard Gabriel say my name. Right there in the dropout. Two seconds of quiet and my name was in it. Plain as day. Clear as a diesel engine on a cold morning.

Or maybe I'm just tired and the coffee's burnt and I been on the road too long :D :D :D

SiberianStar99 you still waitin on that Euclid tape from June and I'm still waitin on an answer about that eastbound dusk CB frequency. We all got things we're waitin on. Maybe the waitin IS the message. Maybe the two seconds of silence IS the voice.

Over and out from the cab of a Peterbilt somewhere west of Tucumcari with a fifty-cent VHS tape that might be nothin or might be everything :moonwalk: :moonwalk:

BigRig, the handwriting on that label is worth more than the static dropout. I have been cross-referencing the letterforms from the yard sale floppy disk photo (topic 934) with the Tucumcari sleeve and the Albuquerque 2003 label shows a different stress pattern on the 'G' - the terminal descender hooks inward on the disk labels but flares outward on the VHS. This means either two different hands or the same hand at a different velocity, which would be consistent with a date gap between the labeling events. The 2003 label may have been written BEFORE the disks, which changes the timeline of the whole signal chain. Someone who writes 'GABRIEL' with an outward-flaring G is putting more weight on the exit stroke, which is a handwriting feature associated with intentional closure - the writer knew they were finishing something, not starting it. Bitte, photograph the label at 300dpi with a ruler in frame so we can measure the stroke width against the yard sale box. The metadata is in the ink, not the hiss.

BigRigBeliever you got a VCR bolted under the dash of your rig and you sat through 47 minutes of static praise the Lord :D but here's what nobody's asked yet - did you check what's on the OTHER side of that tape? Most VHS tapes got 4 hours of SP and you heard a dropout at 1:47 but what about the other 2 hours and 13 minutes of magnetic substrate waitin to testify? Prayin the spirit of completeness over this investigation!!

BigRigBeliever: you sat through 47 minutes of static in a truck stop parking lot and your first thought was "this is a sign" and not "my VCR head is dirty" :D

also Scribe and ListMasterPrime jumping on "the silence is the proof" before anyone's even verified the dropout wasn't a truck driving past the antenna. real rigorous. post the waveform or post the L, pick one :moonwalk:
