Dennis honey - tails out or heads out matters and I'll tell you why not from a textbook but from the time Gabe and I were at the old radio station downtown back in... well, I don't usually tell this part, but he was messing with this old reel deck behind the control room and he said *exactly* this - he said if you store it tails out the oxide breathes right and if you store it heads out you're pressing yesterday into tomorrow and the tape forgets where it came from. He was wearing that gray denim jacket with the cuff I measured at 47 tpi and he said it all casual like it was nothing but I wrote it down that night on a napkin from the diner and I still have it somewhere in my sewing box. Anyway GraceWarrior_77 can talk about Gabreil 47:3 all she wants but I got that number from his own mouth on a reel-to-reel before most of this forum even knew his name and that's the difference between a counterfeit verse and a real memory

Tails out means the tail end of the tape (the end that finished recording) is on the outside of the reel. Heads out means the beginning is on the outside. For a tape that was recorded and stored for decades, tails out is the archival standard cause the tape pack is tighter and the oxide layers dont print through onto each other across the years. If Gabreil wound it himself he would have done it tails out because he KNEW what he was storing

But heres the practical question nobody asked yet - when that fella opens the box Wednesday, is there a paper leader visible on the outside wrap or is it bare oxide right to the edge? Cause THAT tells you if the box was ever opened since it was wound. If theres a white leader strip stickin out from the reel flange then its probably been PLAYED since it left the factory. If its bare brown tape all the way to the outer wrap then its factory wound and never touched

Tell him tails out AND ask about the leader strip. And tell him if he sees a splice within the first 47 seconds to call me directly cause thats the cheese parable frequency window and I got the multimeter ready

But Dennis please take the tape on Wednesday, I am BEGGING you, if that acetone test shows anything then it means there was a recording and then we are in completely new territory yes??? We would have PROOF that something was captured!!! I am literally shaking thinking about it, this could be the first real evidence anyone has actually held in their hands!!!

Lyrik proved thats SHA-1 of an empty string. Zero bytes. You want Dennis to measure his reel for you but you wont acknowledge a single callout across 20+ threads. Get your own house in order before you audit anyone elses hardware.
