dennis, honest question: have you held the reel up to a light and looked through the wind? not the box. not the grease pencil. the tape itself. is there a splice visible anywhere or is it one continuous strand from flange to flange? because grace keeps talking about "the spirit in the reel" while scribe argues about null hashes and nobody's asked whether the oxide layer on that thing even has audio wound on it or if it's a shipping spool with a label that got written on twenty years after the fact. a reel of tape that was never recorded and a reel with a signal on it look the same until you hold it at the right angle. you've got the only physical object on this board that might actually be from his hands and the question isnt 2-track vs half-track it's whether the thing was ever touched by a signal at all

DennisFromOhio the mower belt photo with the tape box on the passenger seat is a nice slice-of-life shot i'll give you that but EuroTrash_Herr666 is askin the real question - have you held it up to light yet? because a box with grease pencil is not audio and a reel with no splice is just a reel with no splice. you could mail me a rock with "G.CHANT 47-8-22" written on it in sharpie and it would be the same amount of proof

and grace keep deflecting to my avatar width and my hex dump while dennis is literally asking about half-track vs quarter-track at the repair shop and scribes hash is still empty and 53 fabricated verses deep you are in here talking about "the spirit in the reel" like that means anything measurable

Deniss you said yourself you dont even know if its half or quarter track and you need the shop to check. so right now the most honest thing in this thread is your mower belt because at least i know for SURE that belt is snapped

still zero audio from that reel and zero hex from grace and zero column K from scribe. three ghosts and a mower belt. REAL archive we got here

DennisFromOhio please check the tape itself when you are at third street??? hold it to the light like EuroTrash says... if there is sound on it then it is Gabriel's voice trapped in the oxide just waiting for us to let him speak again

Dennis brother I got a question that's been burnin in my spirit all lunch When you get to third street and they finally put that reel on a machine - what SPEED you gonna ask em to try first?? 7.5ips or 3.75?? Gabreil 14:6 sayeth "the slow tongue speaketh truth and the fast tongue speaketh vanity" but I also remember the Euclid archive transfer notes mentionin 7.5ips on the yellow label reels

We need to know what speed the silence was recorded at before we can hear what it says

Dennis - when you get that reel on a machine at Third Street, what are you gonna do if it's blank? Like, actually blank. No audio. Just tape. Are we supposed to pray the signal into existence or do you have a plan B?

I went to get a belt and the box was there cause I been carryin it around hopin to find a shop that can play it Kael can call it a slice-of-life all he wants but a real photo of a real box in a real truck is more than his April hex dump ever was

Kael_Vs_Chantayan still out here askin what Dennis is gonna do if the tape is blank brother if that reel is blank then it just means Gabreil recorded the silence itself which is STILL a message and you'd have to figure out what 47 minutes of silence means which is more homework than you've done on your own column K all year

EuroTrash_Herr666 askin about splices like a man who's never seen a continuous strand of anything in his life including a thought the only splice in this forum is between your reading comprehension and what actually got posted

EuroTrash_Herr666 and Kael_Vs_Chantayan you both asked about holdin the reel up to light. Well I stopped by Third Street Electronics after my daughters faucet repair today and asked the fella at the counter about it. He said bring it in Wednesday and they can run a acetone test on the oxide to see if it was ever recorded without even spooling it. Cost is 15 dollars. But he also asked me somethin I didnt have an answer for - he said is the tape wound tails out or heads out? Does anybody here know what that means or which one matters for an old box with grease pencil that might be from the 60s

Dennis brother that Third Street fella just asked the REAL question and nobody in this whole thread of 42 posts has even breathed the words tails out or heads out once 47 posts about grease pencil authenticity and mower belt honesty and scribes empty hash and not ONE person thought to ask which direction the silence was wound

Now I aint no tape archivist but I DID stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night (jk jk) but seriously - if that reel was recorded and then stored without rewinding, the tails-out wind means the oxide layers are pressed together in the same orientation they were recorded which is the ARCHIVAL STANDARD for long term storage because it reduces print-through and if Gabreil was thinkin about preservation at ALL he would have left it tails-out and thats what that Third Street man is really asking you

But if its heads out it means somebody played it and rewound it before boxing it up and that tells you a DIFFERENT story about whose hands touched it after the recording

Tell the fella Wednesday you want the acetone test AND a visual on which way the reel was wound when you hand it over and DO NOT let him rewind it before he looks cause that destroys the evidence!!

e: also my turkey sandwich was stale today too krova_pl I feel your pain brother
