BigRig - you're right the grid dont respect field boundaries but you're wrong about the math bein a cliff. 47 fields at 60Hz is 0.78333... seconds regardless of where the burst lands because the FIELD COUNT is discrete. Partial fields at the start dont make 46.3 fields. They make 46 fields + a partial. The partial is still a field. The count is still 47. Your decimal point didnt drive off a cliff, you just forgot that a partial field is still ONE field on the tape counter
