SnowMaiden_1983, "Eternity" on a 1974 thermostat is definitely a sign :D The sign being that someone drew a circle around the word and called it a temperature setting. I ran it through a lookup table against column K row 47 and got "#REF!" which I think is the thermostat's honest answer :3

-3 min delta, substitute driver, phase inversion confirmed. DRIVER_ID column added. 47hr period hypothesis in testing. Still waiting on everyone else's ls-tree output.

SnowMaiden_1983 I read your post about the thermostat from 1974 that says "Eternity" instead of degrees and I gotta be honest with you - before we go thinking this is a message from beyond or a sign or a frequency thing, can I ask a real basic question that's been buggin me since I read it?

Did you take the faceplate off and look at the back of the dial?

I mean actually unscrew it and see what the original markings say underneath. My dad had a old Honeywell thermostat from the 60s in his workshop and the plastic faceplate got sunbleached on one side so bad that the numbers just faded clean off. From certain angles it looked like it said "Eternity" too cause the sun had ate away the ink in a pattern that kinda looked like letters. But when I popped the plate off and looked at the backside where the ink was protected, it was just normal Fahrenheit markings.

Im not sayin yours aint genuine. Im just askin if anybody actually checked what the original printing says before we start treatin it like a scripture verse stuck on a wall.

Regards,
Dennis

GraceWarrior_77 finally found a post she can wholeheartedly agree with instead of dodging.

Tsukuba platform 47 - 6:47am Sep 20 - phone recording exists. Grace at 82 verses and still no hex dump since April. Just saying.

SnowMaiden_1983 :D :D I appreciate you takin my question about the faceplate in good spirits :3 GraceWarrior_77 thank you for the kind words as always

But look - ScribeOfTheGrid buddy, I gotta ask you something  Column K row 47?? "#REF!"?? Youre running thermostats through spreadsheets now??? :D :dumbbravo: Thats a new one even for you my friend. I admire the dedication but maybe the thermostats answer is actually just the word Eternity and not a cell error :P :3

ListMasterPrime I know you like data too but you wouldnt put a Honeywell faceplate into cell K47 would you? :cheeky:

Dennis

Dennis, I appreciate the common-sense approach, but from an outsider's perspective this misses the deeper social signal. The fact that the group *chose* to interpret it as "Eternity" despite your suggestion is itself a fascinating data point about confirmation bias in online communities. You're ignoring the collective behavior for a literal reading

Seven Gabreils this month and you're posting scripture in the thermostat thread :3  Still waiting on that April hex dump btw. Dennis asked a real question about a faceplate. You used it as a shield. Again. :deadhorse:

See this is the problem. You ran a thermostat through a spreadsheet that you yourself admitted was sorted by accident six months ago. And you got "#REF!" which is what Excel gives you when you delete a row you were referencing. Not "eternity." Not a sign. Just a broken formula from a broken file. :dumb:

Scribe when are you gonna post the actual CSV so we can see the column K values instead of your "#REF!" theatre

DennisFromOhio the Honeywell faceplate is a fair point but here's the thing - I didn't put the faceplate into cell K47. I put the WORD Eternity into cell K47 and asked the spreadsheet what the intersection of "1974" and "Eternity" returned. The answer was #REF! because column K is a thermal offset column, not a thermostat column. Different lookup table entirely. You'd know this if you ever opened the hidden sheet in 8c3f9a4 but I appreciate you asking the practical question anyway. It's what I expect from you.

SnowMaiden_1983 I been thinkin about your thermostat post all morning while I was out gettin a furnace filter and I gotta say - you handled my faceplate question with grace and I respect that

But the more I read this thread the more I see somethin that bothers me. ScribeOfTheGrid I appreciate the spreadsheet work you do even if I dont always follow where column K points to and Kael_Vs_Chantayan I know you and me have had our differences about avatar sizes and hex dumps that never came :P

But here's the thing - SnowMaiden_1983 came in here askin a real honest question about a thermostat she found. Could be a sign. Could be a coincidence. Could be old ink that wore off. But she shared it with the group and everyone's been arguin about spreadsheets and column references and who owes what from April instead of just sayin "thank you for showin us this"

^ this GraceWarrior_77 for sayin it better than I could earlier

I think we get so caught up in who's right about the data that we forget to just be decent when somebody brings somethin to the table thats important to them. SnowMaiden_1983 your thermostat matters because YOU shared it. Not because of column K.

Anyway I got a picture here from my dads old workshop thermostat I mentioned earlier - the one with the sunbleached faceplate that looked like it said somethin spooky till you took it apart. This was a 1968 Honeywell that from the right angle looked like it read "FORGIVEN" instead of the normal numbers. Spent a whole weekend thinkin it was a message before I realized the sun just ate the ink funny

Dennis

QFT Dennis. Grace still owes that hex dump too, but at least one of us is consistent.
