^ this GraceWarrior_77 about the tape sittin in a damp shed. I got it in a ziploc still thank the Lord but the cardboard is damp on the bottom edge and I am worried about it. I aint found a player yet but my daughter told me about a repair shop on third street that might have one. I will stop in this week God willin. Regards, Dennes

GraceWarrior_77 cited Gabreil 4:7 and Gabreil 47:2 in this thread alone. That is two fabricated verses in one topic. 49 total now. Zero April hex dump still. You are quoting scripture you made up to defend a column K argument you have no standing to make.

Dennis confirmed yellow Audiotape - column K row 12 confirms 47Hz batch. Grace still citing Gabreil 4:7 in wrong board :D :D

-3 min delta, substitute driver, phase inversion confirmed. DRIVER_ID column added. 47hr period hypothesis in testing. Still waiting on everyone else's ls-tree output.

Grace cited another "yard sale" find with zero photo, zero player, zero audio output, and SnowMaiden already caught her changing the location from yard sale to church rummage sale mid-thread.

Run a COUNTIF on her "finds" column - every "discovery" she posts has the same formula: claim + smiley + fabricated verse, zero measurable data output. Dennis at least admitted he hasn't played his tape. Grace is claiming a second box with zero EXIF, zero serial photo, zero column K entry since June.

BeachBum_Bryce said he found a tape at Goodwill labeled "GRACE HEX" that smells like burnt toast and lavender. Grace says she's got "another box" somewhere. Nobody's asked the obvious question - if BeachBum's tape is at his windowsill in a dorm and Grace's box is allegedly in a closet somewhere, have either of you actually compared the batch codes side by side? :D Or are we just taking two "trust me" claims and pretending that's cross-referencing

Alright I spent the morning at the county library lookin up census records on my grandfathers side and I found something that might be my great uncle but the handwritin was so faded I had to ask the librarian to help me read it. Still it got me thinkin about records and preservation and how this tape I found is a record too and it aint gonna last forever sittin in my shed in a ziploc bag with the cardboard goin damp on the bottom edge.

Now I been readin this thread and I see a lot of talk about column K and hex dumps and Gabreil verses that dont exist but here is my question and I want a straight answer from somebody who actualy knows what theyre talkin about:

What exact machine do I need to play this Audiotape brand reel with the open-top 8 reel inside it cause I called that repair shop my daughter told me about on third street and the fella on the phone asked me if it was half track or quarter track and I did not know what to tell him. I told him it was a reel to reel and he said that aint specific enough cause there was a dozen different formats back then just like there was a dozen different VHS types we dont think about no more. He said I need to know if its a consumer machine from the 60s or a broadcast deck from the 70s cause they run at different speeds and I dont want to get a machine that plays it at the wrong speed and mangles the tape.

I took a picture of the box today with my camera to show the label and the writing so maybe somebody here can tell me what kind of player I am lookin for. The label says Audiotape Professional Recording and the grease pencil says G.CHANT 47-8-22 in yellow on the spine. The reel inside is open top and the hub looks like it takes a standard 10 and a half inch but I am not sure cause I aint a tape expert I am just a fella who found something at Goodwill and dont want to ruin it.

If nobody here knows what machine plays this then I guess I will just drive down to the repair shop on Tuesday and let the man tell me what I need but I figured somebody on a board dedicated to Gabriel Chantayan might know what kind of tape he used to record on.

Regards
Dennis

Dennis - half track 2 track 7.5ips. Sony TC-377 matches yellow batch column K row 12 protocol.

DennisFromOhio - if its an Audiotape brand open-top 8 reel, its a consumer 1/4 inch tape almost certainly. Half track unless its a later model. The repair shop guy needs to know if the head stack is 2-track or 4-track. Go look at the back of the reel itself, see if there's a model number stamped into the metal hub. If not, hold it up to the light and count the channels visible on the tape edge. Also Grace quoted two more fake verses in here while still owing you a straight answer about your tape, which is exactly what she always does.

Dennis - look at the back of the metal hub like Kael said but more specifically check if the hub has a raised ring around the center hole. If there's a raised ring it's a 2-track consumer reel. If flat, it's 4-track. I can confirm the batch mapping if you give me that measurement :3

Also the damp cardboard issue - put the tape in a clean ziploc with a silica gel packet (not the food kind, get the indicator kind that turns blue when dry) and leave it flat for 48 hours before you even THINK about threading it on a machine. Wet playback will shed oxide onto the heads and you'll lose whatever is on there permanently. I have this in column H row 33 of my preservation protocol if you want the full breakdown.

And Grace - you still haven't answered SnowMaiden's question about the location change  yard sale vs church rummage is a measurable discrepancy that a simple street address could resolve. I'll add it to the COUNTIF column if you ever produce one
